Since 2019’s DALLA DALLA, ITZY has been putting out singles that promote being confident and staying true to your own unique self, and their new track Not Shy is no different. The music video for the addictive new song, which depicts the girls as badasses who wield guns and partake in desert car chases, has them trying out a whole new fashion concept. If you’re a fan of a little thematic dress-up, you’re going to love the girls’ Wild West-inspired looks that definitely don’t shy away from loud colors, patterns, textures and silhouettes – and you already know that they’re going to bust some very elaborate dance moves while they’re at it.
Look 1
The Not Shy music video kicks off with the girls’ faces plastered on wanted posters, followed by a long intro where each member gets formally introduced with a close-up, in keeping with the Western movie format. The girls are clad in probably their dressiest ‘fits of the MV as they drive through the desert, and also at the end of the MV when they finally discover a secret stash… of delectable cakes.
Going from left to right, we first have Chaeryeong, who is clad in a fringed spaghetti-strap mini dress alongside a faux fur wrap – both are a nod to flapper-style clothing, though the neon yellow shade of the wrap kicks things into this decade. Dramatic cut-out knee-high stiletto boots and a simple thin black choker finish things off.
Instead of sparkles and furs, Yuna opts for a loud sleeveless printed jumpsuit, a wide elastic black belt with a circle buckle to cinch in her waist, and a pair of white ankle boots featuring chains and multicolored feathers. She juxtaposes the fun pieces with two luxe rhinestone necklaces, one of which features a darling blue heart-shaped stone.
Lia goes a girly-girl route with a bodycon mini dress with cutouts, contrasting the fuchsia dress against sock boots, bangles and spherical dangle earrings in an equally saturated cobalt blue. Her silver-tone hoop chain belt breaks up the colors and adds a sleek touch.
With her large cowboy hat and silver-buckled leather belt, Ryujin’s look is the most overtly Western-inspired, but even her classic headwear is made more femme with dangling faux crystals around the brim. Comprising a balloon-sleeve off-shoulder white top, glitter shorts, layered pearl necklaces and patterned knee-high boots, her B&W outfit is both familiar and experimental, and reminds me somewhat of 2NE1’s ensembles from Missing You.
Last but not least, Yeji’s high-low color-block strapless gown with sequins, a feathered hem and a slight train is definitely the most extravagant and head-turning. For a toned-down but equally ball-ready piece, opt for this spaghetti-strap sequined number with an asymmetrical fringed hem. Yeji styles hers with a thick silver chain necklace, a more delicate necklace with a green gemstone, and some peep-toe rhinestone-strap heels.
Look 2
For the group’s second look, which they wear while showing off their dance moves in alleyways and garages, the girls go for a more casual vibe in summer-appropriate wear like camis and shorts. They keep things snazzy and fashion-forward with high-shine materials and a range of atypical knee-high boots.
With her single light blue fingerless glove and pink highlights, Lia is definitely imbuing a certain early-2000s Avril Lavigne appeal. Her outfit is made of a lace halter top, patent leather shorts with cutouts and rhinestone straps, a pair of quirky transparent boots and heart-shaped earrings.
Donning the most vibrant outfit of the bunch yet again, Yeji is seen in a multi-colored sequined blazer dress worn alongside a gold-tone square-buckle belt, lime green boots and layered beaded necklaces in a range of colors.
Ryujin rocks an animal-print-heavy get-up that really pushes the limits of warm tones. It stars a flashy coppery-gold cropped biker jacket, a cropped white tee with a lip graphic print, tiger-print biker shorts (a twist on the latest must-have fashion item!), snake-print boots and a gold-tone chain necklace.
Befitting of Yuna’s maknae status, her look – which incorporates relatively low-key and highly wearable pieces such as a twist-front cropped green cami, tie-dye jeans, black and white cowboy boots and multicolored beaded bracelets – could easily be a teenager’s playful streetwear ensemble.
Chaeryeong also goes for a relaxed vibe, combining a brightly patterned cropped tube top with a similar patterned cropped zip-up jacket. Her denim shorts, which come with a ruffled hem, add playfulness, while her gold-tone boots, layered pearl necklaces and rhinestone waist chain channel a more mature glamor.
Look 3
The last set of outfits sees the girls dancing in front of an abandoned auto supply shop in the desert while clad in sleeveless tops, shorts and even more pairs of unconventional boots. With the injection of multiple psychedelic prints, the overall effect is retro and carefree.
Yuna’s peplum tank featuring a swirly blue print is worn alongside matching silver sequin shorts and silver strappy cutout ankle boots. The look is accessorized with triangular dangle earrings for a geometric touch and a rainbow-hued lettering choker.
Sharing a similar palette as Yuna’s top, Ryujin’s patterned blue camisole with a triangular hem comes in a unique pleated material for textural interest. Equally fascinating are her shoes, which are a mishmash of colorfully washed jeans hanging over blue heeled boots – a concise embodiment of the street-meets-cowboy aesthetic of the whole MV. Adorned with polychromatic patchwork, her black denim shorts echo the denim panel on her shoes. Finally, a silver rhinestone belt ties the edgy ensemble together with pizzazz.
Yeji goes red-hot and sassy with a silver sequined cropped camisole that spells out “I AM NOT SORRY” in red. For a similarly sassy alternative, this humorous rendition featuring two hands also comes with red accents to pair perfectly with red faux leather shorts. The rest of the outfit, including a thick silver chain necklace, pearl bracelet and white boots with contrasting black details, is kept simple in order to let her statement pieces shine.
Chaeryeong rocks a dreamy get-up grounded in white. Her gray and white patterned strapless dress with an asymmetrical hem and sheer panels is light and floaty, while her simple white shorts, fold-over white boots and hoop body chain incorporate an urbane chic.
Now for the most psychedelic outfit of them all! Lia oozes fun lovin’ 70s disco vibes by mixing a purple floral-print tube top with hypnotizing printed blue pants and glittery pink boots – not to mention a patterned head scarf (a must-have for a 70s look) and plenty of silver accents in the form of a choker, belt and arm cuff.
