Here’s to the Big Fits in the New House of Gucci Trailer

If there’s one thing to be gleaned from the new trailer for Ridley Scott’s upcoming Gucci family biopic, it’s that even when everything is all Gucci, not everything is necessarily, well,

all Gucci. But at the very least, the fits are going to be good.

Set in the lap of Italian luxury from the late 1970s to the mid ’90s, House of Gucci centers on the story of Maurizio Gucci—the ill-fated heir to his grandfather Guccio Gucci’s storied Italian house, portrayed by Adam Driver—and his wife Patrizia Reggiani, the Italian socialite and Elizabeth Taylor lookalike who would eventually serve 16 years for orchestrating Maurizio’s murder, played by none other than Lady Gaga. All that alone should tell you that we’re gonna get some loud suits, gaudy jewelry, and luxe-if-very-period-specific Italian tailoring in this film, but as the trailer confirms, this is going to be a true costume extravaganza.

Undoubtedly, Gaga’s dressed-to-the-nines Patrizia steals the sartorial spotlight, but Driver’s mild-mannered turn as Maurizio also provides some much needed subtly, replete with some very good dress shirts, sharp lapels, enviable tortoise aviator eyeglasses, and a really good head of hair. There’s an Italian ease to his dressing here—as he says in the trailer’s voiceover, “I’ve been a Gucci all my life.” Suffice to say, from riding a literal horse for Burberry to stepping into Maurizio’s proverbial Gucci horsebit loafers, it’s been a big capital-F Fashion week for Adam Driver.
