The Nike Killshot Is Back for Fall

Nike probably didn't expect the Killshot, its low-key tennis sneaker from the 1970s, to become a smash hit with prep-inclined, non-sneakerhead guys. But that is precisely what happened when the Swoosh

teamed up with J.Crew to first release the Killshot 2 sneaker a few years ago. Since then, the Killshot silhouette has developed a unusually beloved status—a real-world version of the buzz accrued by red-hot kicks from designers like Virgil Abloh and Tom Sachs. (The main difference is that the style has been in stock on the Nike website for most of the year.) Still, the Killshot has been irresistible sneaker kryptonite for regular guys—and now Nike is rolling out two mellow colorways that feel pitch-perfect for fall.

The mass appeal of the Killshot seems to lie in its simplicity. It's a retro silhouette with some design-savvy details but isn't overly flashy or complicated. That makes it extremely easy to wear: it basically looks good with just about anything you'd pair it with.

While the J.Crew collaboration dressed the shoe up in textured leathers and soft suedes to give it more of a polished and preppy look, this latest release leans more into the sneaker's sporty origins. The mesh upper is accented with suede overlays, and the exposed-foam tongue keeps the vintage vibes alive and well. It's offered in a simple black or a dark burgundy, and both colors outfitted with a crisp, white Swoosh logo on the side.

The Killshot is a relatively ordinary shoe, but that's all part of the appeal. It's a modernized take on a classic 30-year-old Nike silhouette and features details that count: sleek-looking design, hints of suede, and a clean-as-can-be rubber role. The Killshot is a sneaker designed to be an everyday staple—and a pair of straightforward, good-looking kicks that you can wear everyday is definitely one worth adding to your rotation.
