A Blonde Demi Lovato Joked About Her Broken Engagement to Max Ehrich on TV

Demi Lovato has healed enough since she and Max Ehrich ended their engagement in late September that she is willing to joke about it a tiny bit. Lovato hosted the People's

Choice Awards last night, and she poked a little fun at herself and the situation in her opening monologue. She also debuted blonde hair, though it was likely a wig, as she had her dark hair on the red carpet.

She said, "I am so excited to be here tonight because honestly, this year has been the longest three years of my life. Don't get me wrong, it started out amazing. I performed at the Grammys and sung the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Thank you! But then COVID hit and everything shut down, so I did what everyone else did, I went into lockdown mode and got engaged. I got into painting, photography, meditation, tested the limits of Postmates Unlimited. I also didn't know this could happen, but I reached the end of Instagram four times. I binged seven seasons of Pretty Little Liars, got unengaged, and then I went looking for aliens in the desert, so basically the same as everyone else."

Ehrich, at this point, hasn't posted any response on his Instagram—which is honestly for the better after his post-breakup behavior.

Lovato and Ehrich first started dating around the time quarantine started. The new couple chose to isolate together and got engaged after less than five months of dating. But Lovato ended things after she became skeptical of Ehrich's real intentions with her (his past Instagram posts and tweets lusting after female celebrities like Selena Gomez and others went viral, with fans accusing him of being a clout chaser).

A source told Peopleat the end of September that "it was very hurtful to Demi when she realized that Max's intentions weren't genuine. Breaking off the engagement was not an easy decision."

The source added that Lovato began to believe that Ehrich was really just ″trying to further his career by using her name behind her back." The source added that "it was hard for Demi to admit she made a mistake when it came to Max."
