Barack Obama Breaks Down How Different Sasha and Malia Are

This week, Barack Obama published his long-waited memoir, A Promised Land, which means he went on a mini (virtual) press tour. Like any dedicated parent, the former president had some stories

about his daughters tucked away to share with the world.

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday, Obama said that Sasha (19) and Malia (22) have some pretty distinct differences when it comes to their personalities. "Your wife, Michelle, told me that you are afraid of Sasha; is that true?," Kimmel asked Obama.

"Yes. And the reason is because Sasha is a mini Michelle, and I'm afraid of Michelle, and Sasha, having seen that, has the same look and the same attitude. Malia is more like me temperamentally. We call ourselves 'the long faces' because her face is more shaped like mine. 'The round faces' are Michelle and Sasha. And the round faces are a fiercer tribe. We're like the vegetarians—the gatherers, and they're the hunters. We try to keep the peace with them."

In his book, Obama also shares a story about Sasha and Malia when they were little girls and went to the zoo with their dad, who was instantly recognized by the public. Together, they decided their dad should adopt an alias, "Johnny McJohn John." When they got home and told Michelle about their plan, she said it would never work, because the their dad would have to "pin back his ears," which are famously recognizable.

Sasha and Malia weren't the only kids Obama gushed over in his interview. He also gave a shout-out to Joe Biden's granddaughter Maisy Biden, who tossed him the ball before he made that recent campaign-trail three-pointer shot.

"She's one of Sasha's best friends, and I had coached her on the Vipers, which was Sasha's rec-league team when they were 7 or 8," he said. "She was the LeBron James of the league."
