Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher have arrived at the palace doors for The Crown season 4. A first look at the new installment reveals Emma Corrin as Lady Di, offering glimpses
at her singular style and that 25-foot wedding dress train. It also showcases Gillian Anderson's Prime Minister Thatcher, poised to clash with Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman).
The only phrase uttered in the 30-second tease comes from the monarch herself, who warns, "Something as important as the monarchy, simply cannot be allowed to fail." The introductions of both Diana, Prince Charles's (Josh O'Connor) headline-making new bride, and Thatcher, who resigned from her post in 1990, threaten the monarchy. A new trailer also unveils the official premiere date for the new installment: November 15, 2020.

Season 4 of The Crown hits Netflix right on its typical release schedule. Filming on the new installment wrapped just before the pandemic shut down productions everywhere in March. This will be the final season for Colman as the Queen, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Josh O'Connor as Prince Charles, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Ben Daniels as Antony Armstrong-Jones, and Emerald Fennell as Camilla Parker Bowles. It will also likely be a one-and-done situation for Anderson and Corrin, as the royal roles are recast every two seasons, and Elizabeth Debicki has already been cast to play Diana for seasons 5 and 6.
Back in 2017, the UK Times reported that the fourth season would center around Thatcher's years as prime minister, following a third season centered on Prime Minister Harold Wilson. Historically, Thatcher held the title from 1979 to 1990. During that time, Prince Charles and Princess Diana had their blockbuster 1981 wedding and Princess Anne's first marriage to Olympic gold-medalist Mark Phillips (Geoffrey Breton) began to get rocky. Deadlinealso spoke to insiders who said the season will end around 1990, the year Thatcher exited the Prime Minister position. The outlet noted that the queen and Thatcher reportedly had a “punctiliously correct” relationship but are believed to have “little love lost on either side.”
After the fourth season's November bow, viewers will have to wait a while for the final two installments. So far, casting announcements for seasons 5 and 6 include Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, and Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip.
