Every year while growing up, I’d ask for an instrument for Christmas. One year, it was a gold Fender electric guitar, the next an introductory drum set. Each was quickly tossed
aside with the realization that I have, well, no rhythm. Santa got wise—so when I had the nerve to ask for a piano on year three of my Christmas musical instrument gifting extravaganza, I was given a triangle instead. And I haven’t asked for a single instrument since.
But this year, I’m asking for a piano again. Earlier this year, Hermès launched their beyond-divine lipstick line—10 matte and 14 satin shades that come in refillable packaging and faintly smell of sandalwood. Now for the holidays, the French luxury house has released 440 limited-edition "Piano Box" sets, where you will find the entire lipstick collection in a custom, oversized orange box.
“Laid out in a line with their black and white lacquering, the lipsticks looked just like piano keys,” says Jérôme Touron, creative director of Hermès Beauty, who tells ELLE exclusively of how The Piano Box got its name. "For me, colors are like musical notes; they can be combined to create harmonies and resonance. More fundamentally, color, like music, is at the same time a precise system—like a frame, and something free, artistic, and deeply emotional."
If you don't have space (or funds) for the entire piano, the lipsticks are also sold individually and still come in the classic, giftable packaging.
So dear Santa—if I happen to find the Hermès Piano under my tree this year, I promise to play it every single day.
The Hermès Beauty 24-Colour Piano Box ($1,608) is available at select Hermès stores.
