The Return of Super Matchy-Matchy: Kang Gary & Haoh
A longtime fan of the variety TV show Running Man since its conception in 2010, I was heartbroken when member Kang Gary left the show a couple of years back. I was delighted to see him return to the spotlight in the reality show The Return of Superman earlier this year with his son Haoh!
Gary has always had a laid-back yet discernable style that took a more fun and colorful turn once he became a father. In The Return of Superman, the father-son duo can be seen in matching vibrant street-style pieces. There was a time when color-coordinating and matching your whole outfit with someone was considered a major faux pas in fashion. Now, it’s a major fashion trend and Gary and Haoh’s outfits are a prime example of how adorable and stylish it can be!
Printed Button Up Short-Sleeve Shirt and Long-Sleeve Top
Perhaps due to their short stay in Hawaii, Gary and Haoh are often seen in printed short-sleeved shirts. I’ve chosen a denim piece with subtle floral prints for Gary and a lighter blue one with fun allover pizza print for Haoh. Layered underneath are long-sleeved crew-neck tees. The rapper has always layered his shirts for a hip-hop look and he’s passed down this style to his son! A white shirt with bold red “Attitude” lettering on the sleeves brings out the red pepperoni print on Haoh’s pizza shirt. For Gary, I went with a blue, white and orange gradient.
Boxy Shorts and Crew Socks
Shorts are another item often seen on this duo. To complement the white gradient on Gary’s long sleeves, I opted for white utilitarian boxy shorts as well as black and white crew socks. These quirky socks feature Hangul characters, which could be a fun teaching moment with Haoh!
Haoh’s wardrobe is a lot more vibrant than his father’s. His orange shorts are embellished with black straps for that same utilitarian vibe. I also gave Haoh matching orange socks with color-blocked panels in red-orange and teal.
Matching Yellow Hat and Sneakers
Headwear is incredibly important for shielding yourself from the sun, and it’s an equally important style factor in the duo’s matching outfits. Gary is often seen in his iconic HALYANG baseball cap, so I styled the rapper with a yellow ochre cap accented with subtle lettering on its black strap. Haoh gets a much brighter yellow bucket hat.
In The Return of Superman, Gary often makes sure that Haoh has fun adventures out in the countryside or while walking around the neighborhood. Matching yellow low-top sneakers ensure that their walks are always comfy. While Gary’s are simple and iconic with their white soles and white laces, I’ve chosen a more colorful pair for the little one. His yellow sneakers are designed with mismatched orange and green rideliners and finished off with rainbow laces.
