First-Gen K-pop Queen Lee Hyori
Lee Hyori hit the scene back in 1998 as part of Fin.K.L, a girl group quartet considered to be the first generation of K-pop idols. Since then, she has transitioned into a successful solo artist. This year, the diva debuted in the trio SSAK3 with fellow singer Rain and comedian Yoo Jae-suk. She also became part of Refund Sisters, a girl group with the iconic Uhm Jung-hwa, Jessi and Mamamoo’s Hwasa. Both supergroups are what K-pop dreams are made of!
On stage, Lee Hyori dons figure-hugging pieces and striking kohl-rimmed eyes. But behind her sexy image lies a more laid-back look. In 2015, the singer took a hiatus from the limelight and retreated to the charming and calming island of Jeju. She returned in 2017 with the hit reality TV show Hyori’s Homestay, which showed an open and honest depiction of the singer lounging around in the comfort of her own home.
Laid-back & Loose-fitting
Lee Hyori’s break from the celebrity world allowed her to fully embrace the comfort of soft, natural fibers and loose-fitting garments. Although the singer prefers simple solid-toned pieces in her clothing, I selected a men’s kimono jacket in a striking marble print as her pièce de résistance. Its swirls of cool blues and warm coral hues remind me of Jeju, where her homestay is located.
For pajama-level comfort, I styled the boxy jacket with a pair of balloon-like cargo pants. The beige shade of the trousers tones down the eclectic pattern of the jacket, while the drawcord hem and silver-toned hardware give the look a streetwear edge.
Straps & Staples
The tank top is a staple in Lee Hyori’s casual wear. I styled the star in her favorite white version, but with color-blocked yellow, blue and red straps to add a subtle 90s touch. Breezy, strappy black sandals and a straw crossbody bag echoing back to that serene island life amp up even more comfort for her look.
Low-Key Accessories
A couple of subtle silver jewelry pieces make this casual ensemble more ready for an out-of-the-house excursion. Lee Hyori is a fan of silver accessories including hoop earrings, which are a constant in her repertoire. I also chose a double-layered necklace with crystals for a bit of bling and sleek layered rings to finish the look.
