1. Burna Boy confirms that he will release a new album in 2021
On April 30, 2021, Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy had a conversation with British DJ and host Zane Lowe on Apple Music Radio, where he confirmed he’d release another album in 2021. He said, “I’m definitely planning to drop my next album this year. Especially at the same time I dropped the last one. I’m trying to do that as long as I can.”
On April 18, 2021, Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy hinted that he would release a new album in August 2021. A fan asked Burna Boy, “Are we having an album this year? @burnaboy.” Burna Boy then replied that “Same time as last year. No worry.”
2. Natasha Rothwell inks big overall deal with ABC Signature
Insecure co-star and producer Natasha Rothwell has signed a multi-year overall deal with ABC Signature. Under the rich pact, which is in conjunction with Disney General Entertainment’s BIPOC Creator Initiative led by Tara Duncan, Rothwell will develop new projects for television via her Big Hattie Productions.
“Natasha is the real deal triple threat. I’ve been a fan of her writing for years and have loved watching her career blossom in front of and behind the camera,” said Duncan. “It’s an honor to provide a platform for one of the best comedic talents in the business.”
3. South Africa: Elaine drops four-minute film to introduce her upcoming music
Songstress Elaine has dropped a four-minute film announcing the upcoming release of her album under US record label Columbia Records. Since her hit song “You’re The One” opened the door to the Pretoria-born beauty’s global takeover, Elaine has since moved to the States, and her fans have been waiting patiently for her latest project.
Notorious for making big moves in silence and last-minute major announcements, Elaine had fans hyped up when she shared a teaser of her four-minute film, “The Shining Star: The Intro,” on Wednesday.
4. Ghana: Akufo-Addo declares May 3 a public holiday
President Akufo-Addo has, through the Interior Ministry, declared Monday, May 3, 2021, a public holiday. In a statement issued Thursday by the Interior Ministry, it explained that the celebration of Workers’ Day on May 1 falls on a weekend, i.e., Saturday. “The general public is hereby notified that Saturday, 1st May 2021, marks May Day (Workers’ Day), which is a statutory public holiday.
“However, in view of the fact that 1st May, falls on a Saturday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has by Executive Instrument (E.I), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601) declared Monday, 3rd May 2021 as an additional Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement read.
5. Ten Hag signs extended contract as Ajax manager
Erik ten Hag has signed a new deal as manager of Ajax, in what looks like a fresh blow to Tottenham in their search for a new boss. The Dutch coach had been tipped as the bookies’ favorite to succeed Jose Mourinho in the Spurs hot-seat next season, following the Portuguese’s sacking by the Premier League outfit.
However, Ten Hag has instead agreed to fresh terms with the Eredivisie giants, with an extended contract until 2023. The Amsterdam club confirmed in a statement on their website: “Ajax has reached an agreement with Erik ten Hag for the extension of his contract, which previously ran until June 30, 2022. The new agreement will take effect on July 1, 2021, and will run until June 30, 2023.”
