“Twinning”, the Spring look for best friends only

If you want to look super hot for Spring 2021 match your outfit  with your best friend’s. Twinning in fashion is a thing, seen on actual twins

– in the beginning - to take on different incarnations in subcultures where those belonging to the same tribe, or  just “best friends”,  recognize each other thanks to identical t-shirts, bracelets or jackets (like the “pink ladies” in Grease). Same values, same lifestyle, same clothes.  The “cut-and-paste look”’ is strong also within the same family, see the “mini me” phenomenon.  Some have even turned their matchy-matchy looks into a distinctive feature, like the Japanese couple Bon and Pon  who share their looks on their Instagram account.

Twinning never really disappeared, it has only taken on different shapes. But how can it survive in the era of  individuality and inclusion? One thing is for sure: co-ords act like a fashionable seal on a friendship.

Today the look is less indistinguishable and more subtle, and there are even rules to follow to avoid any faux pas (and to stay away from a “cheap” effect). First of all,  avoid wearing identical clothes and accessories. To get a modern “twinning” look you just need to have the same style and a shared color palette. The best friend outfits are well-balanced, and stand out for little details the two friends love to share. 

The new twinning style for Spring means dressing the same but showing one’s individual touch and personality. In friendship, just like in love, we must never forget who we are when showing our affection. Even in fashion, twinning means finding the right balance.
