The Federation de la Haute Couture et de la Mode has confirmed that French authorities have given the
green light to organize live catwalk shows during the next haute couture season in Paris.
“Fashion houses may organize physical shows and presentations. Depending on the evolution of the sanitary situation, the physical events may welcome guests in accordance with a specific health protocol and conform to measures determined by public authorities,” the Federation said in a release on Tuesday.
The federation, French fashion’s governing body, also revealed that it had added the hyper-dynamic New York based fashion house Pyer Moss as one of its guest members, a distinction not granted to many designers. And a decision that underlines the remarkable momentum of Pyer Moss, which was founded in 2013 by Kerby Jean-Raymond.
Pyer Moss has since grown to become one of the must-see collections on the New York schedule, while Jean-Raymond is seen as a path-breaking talent who manages to combine original distinctive designs with social activism.
The federation also invited two other new guest members – Paris-based Balenciaga and Vaishali S, a Bombay-based designer who has won acclaim for her use of authentic woven textiles and employment of traditional Indian craftsmen.
The next Paris Haute Couture Week is scheduled to take place from Monday, July 5 to Thursday, July 8.
The announcement comes a week after the federation also revealed that it hopes some brands will stage runway shows in the Paris menswear season – from June 22 to 27.
“Their broadcast as well as all the digital events registered in the official calendar will continue to be showcased on the Haute Couture platform,” the Federation added.
Last month, the federation issued estimates that that the first three fashion weeks of the year in Paris – menswear, women’s ready-to-wear and couture – had scored a Media Impact Value of nearly one quarter of a billion euros.
The federation’s couture division currently numbers 16 houses. They are Adeline André, Alexandre Vauthier, Alexis Mabille, Bouchra Jarrar, Chanel, Christian Dior, Frank Sorbier, Giambattista Valli, Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier, Julien Fournié, Maison Margiela, Maison Rabih Kayrouz, Maurizio Galante, Schiaparelli and Stéphane Rolland.
So far, only Chanel has definitely confirmed that it plans to stage an actual live runway show during couture.
The federation’s eight corresponding members, who are all based outside of France, include Atelier Versace, Elie Saab, Fendi Couture, Giorgio Armani Privé, Iris Van Herpen, Valentino, Ulyana Sergeenko and Viktor & Rolf.
Guest members for this season number 14 - Aelis, Azzaro Couture, Balenciaga, Charles de Vilmorin, Christophe Josse, Georges Hobeika, Imane Ayissi, Julie de Libran, Pyer Moss, Rahul Mishra, RVDK Ronald Van Der Kemp, RR331, Vaishali S, Yuima Nakazato and Zuhair Murad.
