The Best Twitter Reactions to Olivia Rodrigo’s New Album Sour
That sweet aroma you smelled on this fine Friday morning isn’t the dewy freshness and crisp breeze of a mid-May day, but a whiff of an eau de teen’s tears and
anguish (and a dab of Ariana Grande Cloud) because Gen Z darling Olivio Rodrigo's debut album Sour has finally dropped.
Sour has been highly anticipated since Rodrigo’s “Driver’s License” had all the youths on TikTok pining over an ex and all the olds reliving their high school heartbreaks over a dramatic bridge with a soaring choir. Olivia was transforming from Disney star to veritable pop darling à la the Mileys, Selenas, and Demis that came before her—Disney knees and all. But unlike her Disney predecessors, Rodrigo has found a way to separate her acting pursuits from her singing and songwriting career, allowing her to shed the cringe-y cookie-cutter image former Disney stars adopted in their early days. She flips the middle finger to the romanticization of being young and in love on Sour cut “brutal” (“Where’s my fucking teenage dream?”) and slips on a comfy cardigan for the Taylor Swift-esque “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back.” The album font may be in lowercase, but Rodrigo's message is loud and clear: POP HAS A NEW PRINCESS.
Of course, an album this hotly anticipated would send Twitter in a tizzy. Feeds were flooded with first-listen impressions of Rodrigo’s album, from users traveling down heartbreak memory lane to the “olds” keeping up with Gen Z’s pop takeover. Below, the best Twitter reactions to Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour album.
