Last Week, Best Dressed Black Men Set The Tone For The New Year In Style
The arrival of 2022 was evidently met with fanfare. Each year’s start is cause for celebration, and this time wasn’t different as the collective desire for joy was noticeable. That spirit was
evident in the fashion Black men chose to countdown in and to celebrate the new year.
The Looks
As his first fashion serve in the new year, Nigerian fashion designer Adebayo Oke-Lawal provided his version of festive, floral couture. Dressed in an all-white suit from Lagos-based fashion house Mannell Studio, Oke-Lawal commanded attention as he welcomed his audience into the new year. With a chartreuse silk shirt from London-based designer Kai Collective which complements the floral embroidery on the suit — and equally competing for attention, Oke-Lawal’s outfit could have been overwrought. However, its minimalist color palette kept attention focused on the look’s elegant silhouette and overarching finesse.
When it’s holiday season, you dress up in holiday colors. In New York, Fashion designer and influencer Jermaine Richards made a splash of red wearing clothing pieces from his brand, Rich Access, delivering a monochromatic look. A combination of red cashmere turtleneck sweater and a pair of red pants, Richards look was epic and appropriate for the festivities. Add on the crimson wool coat with plaid details, and you have the makings of a moment.
Sartorial elegance, minimal yet stylish, and practical were some of the outfits the best dressed Black men launched into the new year with. This is precisely the kind of looks we expect to see more of in 2022.
