Emma Stone and Husband Dave McCary Do Rare Zoom Appearance Together
Emma Stone and husband Dave McCary are working together as producers on Jesse Eisenberg's directorial debut film When You Finish Saving the World. To celebrate the movie's premiere, they made a
rare appearance together at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival on a virtual panel. McCary and Stone founded Fruit Tree Productions together in August of 2020.
“As an actor, you usually just go with what comes to you and you're at the mercy of the process,” Stone said at the January 20 panel about the film, according to IndieWire. “We don't want to say we just want to make things, that sounds trite. Because we have these longstanding relationships, we thought it would be amazing to support these people in a more meaningful way than just being a cog.”
The couple have been together since 2017, were married in 2020, and welcomed their first child together in 2021. They tend to be very private about their relationship, but have been very excited to promote Eisenberg's project. The actor-director has a long history with Stone, having worked together on the two Zombieland films.
“He's the most curious person I've ever met,” Stone said of Eisenberg. “He studies everyone and asks so many questions. He has a deep empathy to him. I knew that from acting with him, so it just felt like a no-brainer that we'd attempt to work on something with him.”
The movie focuses on a mother-son relationship, which Stone said during the panel was a more meaningful story to her as a new mom herself.
“It was an incredibly personal story to him that felt like something none of us had seen before,” she said. “That's pretty much ticking every box of anything we could hope to be involved with.”
