Normani Gets Vulnerable on Her New Song ‘Fair’
Normani is back. After releasing the seductive Cardi B collab “Wild Side” over the summer, the singer taps into her softer side with “Fair,” where she meditates about love, heartbreak, and
the pain that comes after it. “Is it fair that you moved on? / Cos I swear that I haven’t,” she sings in the hook.
Following upbeat singles like “Motivation,” this new release finds Normani going deeper and rawer than before. “This is me being vulnerable, and really captures a true and raw point in my experience that I wanted to share, and I hope that people can connect with,” she told Zane Lowe on on Apple Music 1.
The singer added that she wrote “Fair” while experiencing the feelings that inspired it “in real time.” She explained, “I was going through it emotionally that, that day, I wasn't sure if I could even really pick myself up to go to the studio. But ended up, and this was a result. And it's therapy for me.”
There is no music video for “Fair” yet, but the singer did debut the song on TV last night with a live performance on TheTonight Show. The visuals will be worth the wait, though—fans know that Normani always delivers.

200 days and counting I know
You’re my favorite still
And I say I won’t tell myself I don’t
But I always will
Feel the way I feel
You had time to heal
And I got time to killPlay in my mind
Like I rehearse it
I know I should re purpose
Ain’t no faking hurt like this nah
You carry her and all I carry are
Burdens
Time for me ain’t working
I know heartbreak ain’t perfect butIs it fair that you moved on
Cos I swear that I haven’t
Is it right that you’ve grown
And I’m still stuck in habits
Cos I’m finding it strange
That you’re better than average
Hearts didn’t break down the middle
Tell me how did that happenMaybe
If we could trade places
So you feel betrayed and
And I can feel shameless
And I carry all of the weight
While You get all of the gains
I can’t take all the ways that she may
Touch you
