Olivia Rodrigo Channeled the ’90s in a Sleek Black Bodycon Dress At the 2022 Grammys
It's Olivia Rodrigo's night, and the first-time Grammy nominee knows it. The “Drivers License” singer arrived on the red carpet dressed to kill—or, at least, to haul home a lot of
golden record players—in a custom Vivienne Westwood Couturebodycon dress with pink crystal embellishments. She paired the look with chokers and opera gloves for a vampy '90s vibe.
The 19-year-old musician is nominated for seven Grammys tonight, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. If she sweeps these categories, she would be only the third artist in Grammys history to do so. Although her forebear Billie Eilish is currently the frontrunner for Album of the Year, Rodrigo has a strong case for the sweep: Her album Sour debuted at number one when it arrived in May 2021, well after its lead single, “Drivers License” had already gone viral on TikTok. Her breakup anthems became some of the year's most-streamed, not to mention the most talked-about; the drama surrounding her split from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series co-star Joshua Bassett fueled the rapturous attention.
“I’m definitely not as sad as I was when I wrote Sour,” Rodrigo told ELLE in a recent interview. “I’m so excited to make my next record and explore more colors and textures and feelings and grow as a human being even more. I’m really stoked for that.”
In case it wasn't obvious from the dazzling grin on Rodrigo's face, she's not crying on the bathroom floor as much these days. Sour has transformed from her heartbreak catharsis into the launching pad for the rest of her career, no matter what the Grammys decides tonight.
“I just think when you put [songs] out into the world and they help people and make people happy … it’s not quite as devastating anymore,” she told ELLE. “And it’s a very empowering thing.”
