Everything You Need to Know About Joe Biden’s Grandchildren
If you’ve followed President Joe Biden’s political career at all, chances are you know a thing or two about his family. It’s a story Biden has emotionally recounted countless times over
the years, especially during the 2020 presidential campaign, as he was trying to make a case to the country that he was the right candidate to carry the nation through a time of great grief. As Biden has shared, in 1972, his daughter, Naomi, and his first wife, Neilia, died in a car accident, leaving his sons Beau and Hunter injured. Biden went on to marry Jill Jacobs (now known as Dr. Jill Biden), with whom he shares a daughter, Ashley. Beau, the oldest of the children and the former attorney general of Delaware, then passed away in late May 2015 from brain cancer.
For Biden, family is everything, and over the years, that’s grown to also mean his grandchildren: Naomi, Maisy, Finnegan, Natalie, Hunter, and Beau (named after the late Beau), who range in age from two to 28 years old. Some have shown up in news stories, like the Vogue profile of Dr. Biden from March 2020; some showed up at campaign rallies or at the Democratic National Convention; but for the most part, you can find them on Naomi’s Instagram account. The oldest of the grandchildren has posted several heartwarming cousin moments, proving that this group, who’ve spent their lives in the public spotlight, is tight.
Naomi Biden
Naomi is the oldest Biden grandchild and was born in December 1993. She is the daughter of Joe’s son Hunter and his first wife, Kathleen. She is named after Hunter and Beau’s sister, Naomi Christina, who was killed in a car crash with her mother, Neilia. She’s the rare Biden grandchild who has a public Instagram account, where she posts cute family snaps like this one with her cousin, Natalie. She got her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 2016 in the same class as Tiffany Trump. Naomi studied international relations in college and graduated from Columbia Law School during a virtual ceremony where her grandfather was a guest speaker.
In September 2021, she announced her engagement to Peter Neal, a student at University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. (In the past, the two made a website that helps Americans learn how to gain access to their stimulus money during the COVID-19 pandemic.) Then this April, Naomi announced on Twitter that the two would be having a wedding celebration at the White House, writing, “We can’t wait to make our commitment to one another official and for what lies ahead.” Per the New York Times, the couple will host their party this November.
Naomi can also often be found providing colorful commentary on Twitter. “Tweets permanently pending approval,” her bio reads, jokingly addressing the spotlight on her social media. As a member of a high-profile political family, her tweets do offer insight into the Bidens’ daily lives. In October 2020, she shared that the family was listening to “The Man” by the Killers. Then during the Oct. 22, 2020 debate, Naomi tweeted, “My pop is making the same faces as when I make him watch reality tv.”
When it was announced that Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election, Naomi captured an intimate hug with her family; “11.07.20,” she captioned the snap.

Finnegan Biden
Finnegan is the second daughter of Hunter and his first wife, Kathleen. She was born in 2000 and named after Joe’s mother, Jean Finnegan. Finnegan also attended the University of Pennsylvania, and
Maisy Biden
Maisy is Naomi and Finnegan’s youngest sister. She was born in 2001, and she’s the same age as Sasha Obama. Joe told The Hill in 2019 that his family and the Obamas had a joint graduation party for Maisy and Sasha when they graduated from Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., where Maisy played lacrosse, soccer, and basketball. “Her best friend is Sasha Obama,” Joe told a crowd in Iowa. “Barack and Jill and the whole family, we had a whole get-together.”
He also skipped the Iowa Democratic Party’s Hall of Fame dinner in June 2019 to attend Maisy’s graduation and celebrate his daughter Ashley’s birthday. “One of my competitors criticized me for not going to Iowa to talk for five minutes,” he said. “My granddaughter was graduating. It was my daughter’s birthday. I would skip inauguration for that.”
Maisy also maintains an active presence on TikTok, regularly sharing content with her 178K followers. In November 2020, she posted a video of herself making artwork with her father, Hunter.
Natalie Biden
Natalie, 17, is the oldest child of the late Beau and his wife, Hallie. During
Robert “Hunter” Biden
Beau’s second child goes by Hunter and was born in 2006, making him 16 years old. He’s named after his uncle and seems quite content to be surrounded by the many women in his cousin lineup. He can also be found on TikTok, where he most recently posted a dancing video with his sister Natalie.
Beau Biden
Joe’s son Hunter previously dated his brother’s widow, Hallie Biden, following Beau’s death, but reports of their split surfaced in May 2019. He then tied the knot with South Africa native Melissa Cohen that same month, six days after they met. They welcomed a baby in March 2020, naming him Beau after Hunter’s late brother. For his second birthday, Naomi posted a gallery on Instagram, writing, “BB IS 2 TODAY !!!!!!! HBD TO THE LOML”
Navy Joan Roberts
Hunter also welcomed a child in 2018 with Lunden Alexis Roberts. Although he initially denied being the father, a paternity case found that he is the “biological and legal father” of Navy Joan Roberts.
