The Best Twitter Reactions to Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Supreme Court Confirmation
On Thursday, the Senate officially voted to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the United States Supreme Court, making her the nation’s first Black female SCOTUS Justice. In the Court’s 233-year
history, only five other women and three other people of color have sat on the bench, making Jackson’s appointment both groundbreaking and long overdue.
President Joe Biden nominated Jackson in late February. When he announced his pick, he said of Jackson, “She’s a history maker...an immensely qualified judge who’s going to help make our courts stronger and more reflective of our country.” Biden and Jackson are both expected to deliver remarks on Friday now that she has been confirmed to the Court, the White House said in a press statement.
After the Senate vote, celebrities, activists, and politicians took to social media to express what it means to have a Court that looks a little bit more like the country it represents. Here are the best reactions:
Watch your step, concrete ceiling just shattered.
Congratulations to the Honorable SUPREME. COURT. JUSTICE. Ketanji Brown Jackson.
Now read that again.
