Last Week, The Best Beauty Looks Were Unified By A Refreshing Aura
A
fter the historic confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson on the US supreme court last week, we were once again reminded that there’s nothing Black women can’t do. The news brought in
a breath of fresh air that stirred our minds to recollect the ceilings we’ve shattered over and over again. From engineering marvels to legal sensations, architectural wonders to beauty empires just like Rihanna‘s Fenty, this is indeed a time to be alive!
Consequently, the best beauty looks lineup this week is beyond a celebration of our diverse beauty. It’s also a means to honor our strengths, wins (big and small), and perseverance against all odds. The women on this list represent different backgrounds, schools of thought, experiences, etc. However, they are all united, just as we are, by the glorious melanin they come dripping in. Here’s to more Black women making history!
The Looks
Makeup
Last week, we spotted Tiffany Haddish rocking a subtle glow that complemented her power-girl outfit. The look put a premium on her skin as all other elements danced to a hushed-down beat. For her eyes, the actress opted for the classic smokey eyes, however, with a lot less drama than we’re used to. But it was her glossy lips that sealed the look together in our opinion. (Fun fact: Did you know Haddish is the first female African American comedian to host Saturday Night Live?)
Next up is Monica Denise who played up her charm in a glamourous look. The chart-topping singer brought her eyes to full display with defining shadow and well-highlighted liner for a maximum impact. Of course, let’s not forget skin-matching nude lips that ensured all attention stayed on her eyes. (Fun fact: Denise is the youngest recording act to ever have two consecutive chart-topping hits on the Billboard Top R&B Singles chart).
Hair
Bantu knots on natural hair are always a win! Don’t believe us, just check out Yara Shahidi‘s rendering of the now-iconic hairdo. Her messy knots made no attempts at perfection but rather chose to showcase her beautiful curls. Plus her edges that played between well-laid and not was the crowning effect. (Fun fact: Did you know that Shahidi is a Harvard alumnus?)
