has made the genre go global. With the new releases this week, we saw Afrobeats artists bring back Nigerian slang from way back, striking up good memories in listeners.
From Victony’sKolomental to AV’sJiggy, listeners were thrown back a bit and were definitely glad to be reminded of an often forgotten part of the afrobeat culture.

#1. Victony – Kolomental
Wednesday, April 26, 2022, made it a year since Victony was involved in a car accident that almost took his life and unfortunately took the life of his friend. He commemorated the day with this new single titled Kolomental. Produced by Blaise Beatz, Kolomental sees the Victony sing about not thinking about his troubles so as not to go crazy. Kolomental is a Nigerian slang for going crazy.
#2. Young Jonn ft. Davido – Dada (Remix)
Nigerian producer-singer, Young Jonn keeps to his good form with a remix of his top-charting song Dada. For the remix, the Chocolate City music artiste employs the services of Nigerian Afrobeat star Davido who has a good track of making hits out of remixes. With a joint production effort between Young Jonn and Niphkeys, the remix is sure to do as well as, or even better than, the original.
#3. Darkoo, Clean Bandit ft. BackRoad Gee – Everything But You (Remix)
After the success of the original featuring A7S, British electronic music makers, Clean Bandit decided to give their song, Everything But You an afrobeats remix while keeping the electronic element. To accomplish this, they enlisted Nigerian singer Darkoo and London rapper, BackRoad Gee to do justice to the remix. The result? A club banger which we’re certain will take over the scene in the coming months.
#4. Veeiye – Let Them Say
Rising songstress, Veeiye has released the second single of her new era titled Let Them Say. After the success of her first, Show, the Big Brother Naija Season 5 finalist plans to bring her soulful vocals and smooth harmonies into the industry and make a big name for herself. Well on the way to that, Let Them Say draws her closer to her goals as it is receiving good reviews from listeners on social media.
#5. AV – Jiggy
Nigeria’s uber-talented Singer, AV is back with another monster hit for the culture titled Jiggy. AV joins forces with hitmaker Krizbeatz on this record to deliver a mind-piercing dancehall-influenced single. This is AV’s first single of 2022, and it follows the release of his last monster hit single; Confession, one of the top-charting singles of 2021. Jiggy is the first single off AV’s debut EP, Thug Love slated for release in May 2022.
