Meghan Markle Invests in Women-Led Instant Oat Milk Latte Startup
Date December 14, 2020
Meghan Markle is now an oat milk latte investor. Today the Duchess of Sussex announced her first public investment in Clevr Blends, an American, women-led startup that makes instant, just-add-water, oat milk lattes filled with adaptogens, superfoods, probiotics and other wellness-y ingredients.
“This investment is in support of a passionate female entrepreneur who prioritizes building community alongside her business,” Markle told Fortunein a statement. “I’m proud to invest in [cofounder and CEO] Hannah’s commitment to sourcing ethical ingredients and creating a product that I personally love and [that] has a holistic approach to wellness. I believe in her, and I believe in her company.”
The size of Markle’s investment was not disclosed.
“Entrepreneurs need funding, but they also need advisers who care deeply about what they are building. I’m grateful to have found both in the Duchess of Sussex,” Mendoza told Fortune. “Her passion for what we’re creating is palpable, and I couldn’t imagine a more aligned partnership. We’re excited for the road ahead.”
Markle’s already getting her friends on Clevr Blends influencer train: Oprah posted a video of herself making one of the superlatte blends and thanked her neighbour “M” for the gift. (Why Oprah didn’t just say Markle’s name we’re not entirely sure, especially since she then clarified, “Yes that M?” and included a crown emoji. Markle and Prince Harry moved to Santa Barbara, California earlier this year, which is in the same area as Oprah and Clevr Blends HQ. “Wish I had @clevrblends sooner cause I would’ve added it to my Favorite Things list,” Oprah added, the magic words every startup wants to hear.
Canadians hoping to try the blends are in luck: Clevr Blends currently ships to Canada, and according to the website, cheaper rates will be coming in 2021. Happy new year to us!
