Happy Holidays: Two Beloved Nike Air Max Sneakers Are Back
The Nike Air Max series has consistently put out some of the most sought-after and game-changing sneakers in the game. Hell, the Swoosh even invented a holiday for the shoe line.
But you don't have to wait that long to get your hands on some perfect Air Maxes. Because this month marks the return of not one but two extremely beloved Air Max sneakers: a cult-loved colorway of the Air Max 97 and a duo of collaborative Air Max 95s.
The Air Max 95 made its debut more than 25 years ago, and still stands today as an iconic piece of footwear—and this vintage colorway brings the legend back to life. It was designed by Sergio Lozano, then a relatively new Nike designer focusing on the brand’s ACG sub-label. The shoe was initially imagined for the most powerful runners who really pounded the pavement and needed more cushioning than previous Air Max models offered. The Air Max 95’s design took cues from the human body: a lacing system inspired by a set of ribs, an outsole based on a spine, and an upper playing off the concept of muscle fibers.
The Air Max 97, meanwhile, is similarly legendary. This new duo of collaborative sneakers comes via Nike and Undefeated, the longtime Los Angeles streetwear store turned covetable brand. In 2017, the two companies teamed up to remix the sneaker, and sneakerheads and streetwear fans went wild—many dubbing it arguably among the best Air Max 97s ever released.
Now, Undefeated and Nike revisit that celebrated design in two new colorways: militia green and orange blaze as well as black and volt yellow.
The two new Undefeated-designed Air Max 97 sneakers will drop on December 28, and the “OG Neon” Air Max 95 have already sold out via Nike but can be picked up via StockX. Whether or not this is your first pair of Air Maxes or you have too many to count, either sneaker makes a worthy addition.
