How Kate Middleton Is Celebrating Her 39th Birthday Today
Today is Kate Middleton's 39th birthday. She's one of the lucky people who didn't have to celebrate her 2020 birthday in quarantine (must have been nice), but this year, as the
pandemic rages on, she's spending her day at Anmer Hall in Norfolk with her kids and Prince William.
Although she saw her her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, on her birthday last year, that probably won't be happening this year because of COVID-19. Thankfully, Kate doesn't necessarily like a big birthday celebration so a quiet one is probably more her style anyway. Last year, her birthday was somewhat overshadowed by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's January 8 announcement that they were leaving their royal roles, though she likely enjoyed the quiet family time then, too.
"Catherine isn't one for lots of fuss or big parties—being with William and the children is her favorite way of spending her birthday," a friend told Vanity Fair's Katie Nicholl.
The duke and duchess's official Instagram posted a photo of Kate for her birthday. "Thank you for your kind wishes on The Duchess' birthday," the post reads. "Birthdays have been very different in recent months, and our thoughts continue to be with all those working on the front line at this hugely challenging time."
The royals, who are usually out in the public doing their philanthropic work, spent much of the past year in lockdown with the kids. This summer, they did take a local family vacation on the Isles of Scilly off the coast of Cornwall.
"William and Kate were riding their bicycles, having a laugh," a local source told the magazine of the Cambridge's recent trip. "They looked so happy enjoying the weather." Another source said: "They decided on a quick getaway before the children return to school. They were keen to support our travel industry."
