Summer’s almost upon us! But before we sashay into the season of sun and surf, bottle the
last of that spring energy by indulging in a movie marathon that captures the best of this dreamy season! Whether it’s a budding friendship flick set against a backdrop of sakura blossoms, a coming-of-age tale buzzing with hope, or simply a story told in soft pastels and lo-fi beats, we’ve got you covered with styling ideas to match! From on-trend color-blocking to twists on dependable florals, here are five spring-infused wardrobes that will carry over into summer. Read on for all the flirtatious silhouettes and vibrant styles!
1. Bambi – Florals or Nothing
Brimming with warm, fuzzy vibes and tugging at the heartstrings, Bambi is one of the most beloved springtime movies of all time. A coming-of-age tale and an ode to nature, the Disney classic is replete with flowers, talking animals and lush forest scenes. Re-watching Bambi will make you want to toss off the last of your winter layers and slip into your S/S wardrobe, which calls for nothing less than florals in a variety of styles. Because what else says spring as emphatically as this enduring trend?
I’ve selected splashy florals for the sartorially adventurous, ditsy florals for mixing and matching, and floral accessories for extra pizzazz. The palette is kept light and bright, with the occasional foray into tropical colors – a harbinger of the summer to come.

2. Pride and Prejudice – Understated Regencycore
No spring movie fest would be complete without a Jane Austen adaptation, and the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice is one of the most loved by fans. If Bridgerton is all about that summer swagger, then Pride and Prejudice is all about pure spring energy. Featuring plenty of Austen’s signature touches (from romantic courtship dialogue to witty banter to expertly concealed passion), the film is also full of panoramic shots of the English countryside, the backdrop to budding love. If you feel like revisiting how Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy sparred their way to a happy ending, chances are you’re ready to switch your spring wardrobe up in a Victorian direction. For a modern take on country girl chic, indulge in pale, floaty fabrics and empire waistlines before adding a touch of period luxe, like a rhinestone necklace or faux pearl earrings.

3. Kiki’s Delivery Service − Cute and Gothic
There’s just something about coming-of-age movies that scream spring. Ditto the cottagecore trend, with its rustic vibes, nature references and overwhelmingly soft aesthetics. Expertly blending the two themes with a magical twist, Studio Ghibli’s 1989 classic Kiki’s Delivery Service follows teenage heroine Kiki who flies the nest in order to become a properly trained witch. Her daily outfit − a loose-fit black dress enlivened by an oversized red bow on her head − is one of anime’s most iconic. Here, I mix the kawaii with a hint of gothic to produce a spring ensemble that’s predominantly in Kiki’s signature red-and-black palette.

4. Booksmart – Sassy and Preppy
Focusing on two super-academic high school outsiders who decide to party hard before graduation, the 2019 gem Booksmart is a teen comedy populated by flawed but decent people, rather than the usual mean girls and dumb jocks. It comes with plenty of style inspo, from effortlessly chic jumpsuits to sequined party dresses. Are you a fan of the film’s positive energy, jewel-toned palette and sweet, coming-of-age storyline? Then cop some of the characters’ inimitable styles, which range from bright and glitzy to retro grungy to low-key preppy. Feel free to mix and match to your heart’s content − there’s nothing like a kitschy 90s-style tee to enliven a blazer-and-shorts set!

5. A Silent Voice – Soft Silhouettes in a Watercolor Aesthetic
People say autumn is the perfect season for reflection, but the period of flux just before summer is also an opportune time for serious introspection. If you’re looking for something set in a minor key that’s ultimately hopeful, the 2016 anime movie A Silent Voice ticks all the right boxes. Rendered in a soft, pastel palette but pulling no punches when it comes to exploring serious themes like bullying and loneliness, the teen drama is as dreamy as it’s hard-hitting. The scenes of sakura blossoms and koi ponds will leave you swooning, and the film’s gentle, meditative vibes may inspire you to reflect and re-evaluate your life. To capture its delicate charms in fashion pieces, I’ve paired a floaty chiffon shirt with wardrobe staples like ribbed camis and minis before topping off the look with a mesh scrunchie and a two-toned backpack.
