I’m a fan of fermented skin care products since they can offer anti-inflammatory benefits and soothe signs of irritation. As someone who deals with hormonal acne, I tend to reach for products that bring down inflammation, keep my skin barrier intact and nourish my skin at the same time.

Korean skin care brand JUICE TO CLEANSE is a clean beauty and vegan brand that uses naturally sourced ingredients and cold-press juicing to create products. As soon as I came across JUICE TO CLEANSE’s Vinegar Kombucha Essence and Vinegar Kombucha Cream, it was a no-brainer to give these products a go.

Vinegar Kombucha Essence

What is it? An essence that gently exfoliates, brightens and hydrates skin.

Key ingredients: Saccharomyces, xylinum, black tea ferment and PHA.

My experience: The Vinegar Kombucha Essence has a lightweight, watery texture that absorbs right into my skin and layers well with other skin care products. I’m used to applying hydrating essence, so I appreciate that the Vinegar Kombucha Essence is packed with both hydrating and exfoliating ingredients. Since it’s formulated with PHA, I only incorporated it into my evening routine twice a week to avoid over-exfoliating.

Even though it offers mild exfoliating benefits, I noticed that my skin felt softer the day after I used the essence. The skin-softening effect was more noticeable on days when I had inflamed pimples. My breakouts appear less inflamed and the essence smooths out any uneven texture.

Vinegar Kombucha Cream

What is it? A cream that deeply nourishes skin and improves skin texture.

Key ingredients: Saccharomyces, xylinum,  black tea ferment and hyaluronic acid.

My experience: There are days when my skin feels dehydrated, and using this cream helps lock in more moisture for my skin. I prefer it as a night cream as I find its rich texture a bit thick for daytime use.

In addition to fermented ingredients, the Vinegar Kombucha Cream is formulated with sodium hyaluronate, hyaluronic acid and hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid. The cream feels like a comfort blanket for my skin, and using it consistently for two weeks kept my skin barrier happy and healthy. I was expecting the cream to have a strong vinegar scent but the aroma is subtle and quite soothing.

The Final Verdict

The Vinegar Kombucha Essence is an effective essence if you need a product that improves your skin texture while delivering hydration. Since it contains PHA, it’s suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin.

The Vinegar Kombucha Cream is a great night cream for hydration. However, I did not experience much of its exfoliating benefits. For more noticeable results in terms of exfoliating, I recommend going for the Vinegar Kombucha Essence instead of the Vinegar Kombucha Cream.

Both products worked well together to keep my skin hydrated and my skin barrier intact. I’d suggest using a gentle cleanser when using the essence, and avoid incorporating other strong active ingredients such as salicylic acid or retinol to prevent over-exfoliating or irritating your skin.
