Recreating Every Outfit from Taeyeon’s “Weekend”

Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes

Released on July 6, Taeyeon’s disco-pop single Weekend is a song celebrating relaxed weekends where you can wake up at noon and do whatever you want. In the music video, Taeyeon is on an opulently furnished private plane, jet-setting to wherever her heart desires. Although taking off on a plane is a distant dream for most of us now, Taeyeon’s lighthearted summer single is a bop you can blast on your phone while enjoying your freedom! The music video’s retro fashions steal the show with four blinged-out outfits that transport you to a nostalgic time. These looks range from a glam pink tweed set for the office, a velour tracksuit that exudes Y2K energy, a preppy white get-up that takes inspiration from flight attendant uniforms, and a grand ball gown to end the weekend with a bang.

The music video opens with Taeyeon working in the office when all of a sudden, everyone but the singer is dramatically frozen in time. Befitting her jewel-toned office filled with iconic iMac G3s, Taeyeon is dressed in a retro luxe outfit. She builds her get-up with a baby pink lace-trimmed camisole, which she pairs with a watermelon-pink tweed jacket and a matching mini pencil skirt adorned with rhinestone details. Taeyeon balances a classic tweed set with plenty of fun, glitzy accents. To extend the color scheme, she accessorizes with a single glittery rounded pink hair clip and pale pink chunky resin hoop earrings, both of which imbue the look with a dollish air. On her feet, the singer rocks a playful socks-and-heels combo with watermelon-pink crew socks and bold strappy red wedge sandals that complement her red lips. Taeyeon incorporates faux pearl layered chokers with a rhinestone centerpiece and long faux pearl layered necklaces to elevate the elegance of her tweed set, as well as more understated jewelry like a chunky white flower print ring and several small silver stud earrings. With an all-pink palette that radiates Legally Blond vibes (profesh but uber-girly and proud of it!), her overall ensemble is fresh and experimental. It’s a look to draw inspiration from if you’re feeling bored of your stuffy work wardrobe.

In contrast to her put-together work outfit, Taeyeon enjoys her weekend in a look that’s more comfortable – but just as pink. She sports this outfit while partaking in a number of in-flight activities: savoring a slice of cheesecake and a cup of coffee, reading a book and dancing around with her portable cassette player in hand. The get-up comprises a baby pink velour short set and a white tube top with rhinestone lettering that spells “Juicy,” short for Juicy Couture, the it brand of the early 2000s. Taking a page from Y2K style icon Paris Hilton, Taeyeon completes her garb with some of the era’s must-have accessories: a patterned pink silk head scarf, a chained belt with dangling letter charms and a red Von Dutch bowler bag. Again, she adds several low-key jewelry pieces, such as gold-tone layered alloy necklaces, a chunky purple resin ring and layered ear cuffs. The singer dons two different pairs of shoes with her tracksuit. Taeyeon first wears rhinestone-adorned pointed pink heels while relaxing on the plane, and later swaps them out for block-heel knee-high white patent boots during her dance sequence.

In addition to her pink tracksuit, Taeyeon also changes into an outfit that matches those of her backup dancers, who are dressed in flight attendant-inspired clothing. Their ensembles consist of navy-and-white striped long-sleeve tops tucked into white pleated knee-length A-line skirts, paired with red ballet flats. Taeyeon’s preppy and sophisticated all-white apparel is an upgraded version of their look, featuring a fitted open-placket cropped polo, a contrast-trim knee-length knit skirt, a scarf headband and block-heel double-strap Mary Janes. In keeping with the clean and crisp aesthetic, Taeyeon goes minimal with a simple rhinestone choker and a pair of timeless faux pearl drop earrings. However, she stays true to the MV’s quirky aesthetic by picking asymmetrical earrings – one is black and the other is white! While in this outfit, Taeyeon lounges amongst the clouds on a Barbie pink sunchair, reading a magazine and indulging in cotton candy.

Taeyeon closes the music video with her grandest outfit of all. She rocks a dreamy sleeveless nude tulle midi dress with floral applique, and goes grocery shopping and scooter-riding in an empty shopping mall at night. The singer embellishes the look with elegant accessories like two black bow hair clips to hold back her loosely curled pigtails, a necklace with pale blue and clear beads, a silver heart-shaped signet ring and circular blue gemstone studs. Juxtaposing the refined glamor, Taeyeon selects tan lace-up biker boots for her footwear. While they match with the color of her dress, they free her up to enjoy the weekend in a way that high heels would never allow.
