Released on August 16 as the lead single to Red Velvet’s sixth EP of the same name, Queendom is an empowering dance-pop track that has achieved four music show wins to date. The music video begins with an AirPod falling into a manhole and entering Red Velvet’s vibrantly colored, magical world. The members picnic on fantastical grass fields reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, and channel their inner wizards by levitating objects with a magic wand. Fittingly, the outfits in the music video are no less captivating. Read on as we unpack two of the most stylish group outfits from Queendom, from experimental interpretations of denim looks to girlish pastel ensembles mixed with glam accents!
The first set of looks is grounded in denim, taking the casual wardrobe staple and making it flirty and figure-hugging. From gradient to cut out to patchwork designs, the iterations of denim found in these outfits are anything but basic. For a grungy touch, all five members rock monochrome lace-up biker boots in varying lengths.
Irene’s ensemble is perhaps the most prim and proper of the lot. Co-ord sets always look put-together and sophisticated, and her denim set comes in a chic dark wash. The long-sleeve crop top is fitted with puffed sleeves and front zip detail, while the mini skirt comes with a side-slit and high-low hem. She contrasts the dark wash denims with white pieces, including a wide hair band, chunky pearl and chain layered necklaces and knee-high lace-up platform boots.
In contrast, Joy’s outfit is more laid-back. She is clad in a denim cropped camisole with a large, playful bow accent and styles it with plaid-panel denim shorts. Plaid and denim are a classic combination, but they aren’t usually found in the same piece! The shorts even incorporate plaid in several different colors for an experimental quilt effect. Like Irene, Joy accessorizes with layered pearl necklaces, but hers come with a rhinestone cross pendant. She finishes the look with a pair of short white lace-up boots with contrasting black laces.
Of the five, Seulgi is the only one not wearing a denim top. Instead, she layers a white tank with black contrast trim under a lightweight white button-up with lettering print. Compared to the other members’ denim tops, Seulgi’s layered tops craft a more artsy aesthetic. For bottoms, she wears a pair of high-low side-slit denim shorts with a leather western belt. The singer accessorizes with layered pearl and chain necklaces and layered silver hoop earrings.
Like Seulgi, Wendy builds her outfit with a black and white top, but she goes for a sleeveless graphic print tee. She blends in with the others by throwing on a cropped denim jacket with large shoulder cut outs, exuding serious rocker vibes. For bottoms, Wendy chooses a trendy gradient denim mini skirt. Wendy and Yeri sport matching black patent lace-up boots with distinctive yellow stitching.
Maknae Yeri is dressed in a girlish get-up consisting of a lace-up cropped denim top and a patchwork denim mini skirt. Instead of pearl necklaces, she has on a rhinestone choker and a rhinestone heart pendant necklace. Yeri extends the bling theme further with rhinestone hoop earrings. Not entirely forgoing the pearls that are so present in the others’ outfits, she rocks a layered pearl belt over her skirt.
While riding on a golf cart through the clouds and enjoying a tea party on an Alice in Wonderland-esque grass field, the members are dressed in whimsical outfits that mix sporty and glam energies. Their wardrobe consists of reoccurring pops of yellow, pink and blue, plus plenty of bling via rhinestones, sequins and glitter. Knee-length white socks add doll-like charm.
Known for her youthful countenance despite being the oldest member of the group, Irene wears a pretty-in-pink outfit that is a perfect match for her. She styles a pink gingham cropped polo with a preppy white pleated mini skirt for high teen vibes. Fuzzy pink hair clips imbue the look with a retro touch. The singer adds bling to cement her queen bee status with a color-coordinated pink pearl necklace and a rhinestone chain belt. Socks and heels might be a faux pas to some, but Irene’s glittery pink strappy platforms paired with long white socks complete the unabashedly girly mood of her attire.
Consisting of a yellow sequined crop top and a yellow gingham mini skirt, Joy’s color-coordinated apparel is glam and risqué yet still fresh. Although the pieces are figure-hugging and the glittery top is reminiscent of night-out attire, the skirt’s print connotes innocence and the outfit’s overall yellow hue also gives it a bright, summery vibe. A simple triangle pendant necklace and rhinestone cuff bracelet add to the mature mood, while her pink bow hair tie and silver heart studs keep things youthful.
The statement piece of Seulgi’s outfit is her striped yellow short-sleeve outerwear, which bears resemblance to a pinstripe baseball jersey. She styles the yellow top with a simple V-neck white tank, as well as a B&W patterned mini skirt that comes with yellow and orange panels to match her outerwear. To cinch in her waist for a more flattering fit, Seulgi uses a white belted waist bag that matches the rest of her clothing – both stylish and practical! She accessorizes with a pearl necklace with dangling letter charms and a pair of transparent frames. For footwear, she opts for a unique pair of revamped white sneakers with a dramatic pointed toe and kitten heel.
Wendy’s outfit is relatively simple and low on accessories. She dons a sleeveless cropped button-up in a blue gingham print. Underneath, she layers a blue ruffled mock-neck top with a gold-tone, rhinestone-adorned collar. For bottoms, she wears a simple brown mini skirt with a contrasting pink panel. Similar to Irene, Wendy opts for glittery pink slide heels, worn over long white socks.
While Yeri’s pink satin mini dress is subtly sultry, she deftly contrasts it against a cropped color-blocked windbreaker, making the look more wearable. A pair of white sneakers with contrasting pink laces matches her pink dress while adding to the jacket’s athletic feel. The fashion pieces combine girly and tomboyish energies, while the accessories go all out with the glam. Yeri embellishes her get-up with a handful of rhinestone hair clips, bow and pearl dangle earrings, and a pearl necklace with a lace-trimmed heart pendant, baubles that balance sophistication with boldness.
