Released on the week of their fifth anniversary, Twice’s second Korean studio album Eyes Wide Open includes the retro synthwave lead single I Can’t Stop Me. In the MV for this title track, the girls rock sequined nude bodycon dresses and floor-length ball gowns in emerald hues and floral prints, but what caught my attention were the three themed looks that all nine girls donned together. Featuring plenty of on-trend co-ord sets, these three looks serve as a guide on how to style various materials and patterns for any occasion. Read on to see how you can recreate Twice’s looks!
Look #1: Gray Workwear
This first batch of office-ready outfits come in gray with plenty of pinstripes (a workwear staple). The great thing about business attire is it often comes in convenient matching sets – a fail-safe way to look put-together when under a time crunch!
The blouse, blazer and skirt combo is a classic for the workplace, but you can take more inspiration from Nayeon’s get-up. She makes the look youthful by sporting a blazer in a cropped cut, switching out a pencil skirt for a pleated mini, and opting for a cropped sleeveless knit top with side buttons for a softer touch. Similarly, Tzuyu goes for a casual pinstriped set consisting of a cropped blazer, cropped camisole and flap mini skirt.
If you’re not into skirts, go for a tomboyish twist à la Chaeyoung’s pinstriped cropped vest and shorts paired with a wide-collar white blouse. For another fun option to spice up the basic white shirt, consider Jungyeon’s bow-accent blouse or Jihyo’s puff-sleeve blouse!
Apart from co-ords, dresses are also super easy to style. Gray might not be your go-to shade for a fun dress, but details like the contrast collar and pleated skirt on Momo and Dahyun’s respective blazer dresses keep this structured silhouette fashion-forward. For footwear, the girls mostly sport lace-up black boots, which counteract the formality of gray-toned office apparel with a tougher edge. Among the bunch, which ranges from ankle boots to thigh-highs, Sana’s contrast cap-toe choice stands out.
Look #2: Yellow Plaid
Centered around patterned co-ords that create a preppy vibe, this second group look might seem similar to the first, but its base shade of vibrant yellow is a complete 180 from the earlier gray tone. Instead of pinstripes, the plaid print oozes high-teen chic with vintage influences, inspired by the iconic yellow plaid outfit worn by Cher in 1990s film Clueless.
Vibrant yellow might be associated with casual summer clothing, but it can be reworked into unexpectedly ladylike fashion! Mina stays true to her ballerina princess reputation in an elegant contrast-trim double-breasted dress, while Sana proves that tweed is always classy in her three-piece set. Tzuyu opts for a smart plaid blazer and matching strappy pleated-hem dress.
If you find all-over prints too dizzying and prefer a single statement piece, opt for plaid bottoms. Chaeyoung pairs her flared pants with a long-sleeve contrast-trim black crop top, while Jihyo styles her high-waisted shorts with a cropped collared button-up in matching yellow.
To add to the prim and proper aesthetic, the girls go all out with doll-like accessories. Apart from Nayeon’s yellow plaid headband that echoes the outfits, pearl and bow elements appear repeatedly. Examples include Tzuyu’s bow-accent layered pearl necklace and flower-shaped pearl earrings, Sana’s bow and pearl earrings and Jihyo’s black bow headband.
For footwear, the girls are mainly clad in white heeled Mary Janes with sheer knee-high white socks for angelic schoolgirl auras.
Look #3: Bedazzled Denim
The flashy final look marks a stark departure from the other two ensembles. While gray-on-gray is typical for workwear, and classically preppy plaid has been making a recent comeback in the form of colorful co-ords, denim is a difficult material to pull off in a matching set. Paying homage to Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s infamous all-denim outfits from 2001, Twice goes for some kitschy fun with figure-hugging denim attire enlivened with plenty of bling. Admittedly, these co-ords are more suitable as stage costumes than for running around town, but maybe they’ll inspire your next Halloween dress-up, or encourage you to add glitz to your attire!
Both Nayeon and Momo are dressed in rhinestone-embellished denim crop tops. Momo pairs hers with denim shorts boasting a sequined fringe along the hem that flutters beautifully as she dances. Jungyeon styles her puff-sleeve denim top with ruffled denim shorts, both of which are pearl-studded. Less shiny but equally dramatic, Jihyo’s A-line denim dress is fitted with a floaty mesh hem, while Tzuyu’s sleeveless denim tweed dress comes with fray trims, pearl buttons and pocket details.
Going full Britney, the girls opt for silver-toned jewelry. On one end of the spectrum, we have Momo’s thin rhinestone choker and Jungyeon’s minimalistic hoop earrings. The other end emanates modern e-girl vibes with Tzuyu’s white lace butterfly earrings and Dahyun’s butterfly pendant layered chain necklace.
For footwear, the girls recycle the black lace-up boots seen in their workwear looks, proving that these versatile shoes add the right amount of effortless cool to ground any outfit, whether straitlaced or flamboyant.
