How to Get Rid of a Pimple Without Popping It

Estimated Reading Time: 1 minute

What do you do when you discover a pimple on your face? Do you a) immediately pop it, b) ignore it or c) find the right products to treat it? If you answered b or c, then good for you! But if you answered a, then let us remind you to keep the hands off your face.

A breakout can make you impatient, but one of the worst things you can do is to pop it. Doing so  can wreak havoc on skin; it can further exacerbate the breakout or cause permanent scarring if handled improperly. Instead of popping your pimples, here are tips to get rid of them.

Grab ice or an ice roller

Applying ice on a fresh or inflamed pimple can help bring down inflammation. I deal with hormonal breakouts (the red and painful kind) from time to time. When they’re swollen, I always reach for an ice roller to calm them down. If you don’t have an ice roller, simply wrap an ice cube in a towel and apply it on the affected area for around 10 minutes.

Be gentle on skin

During a breakout, it’s best to keep your skin care routine simple and gentle, at least until your skin has calmed down. Take a break from chemical exfoliants and avoid cleansers that dry out  skin.

Cleansing properly is the foundation of a solid skin care routine, so opt for a cleanser that keeps skin balanced and won’t strip skin of its natural oils. The Sunday Morning Refreshing Cleansing Foam from AXIS-Y has a pH of 5.5, which is the skin’s ideal pH level. It gently gets rid of grime without stripping skin.

Add an extra layer of hydration

A dry or dehydrated environment allows pimples to thrive, and you don’t want that. Rather than finding ways to dry out pimples, treat skin to an extra layer of hydration with an essence. If you already have a hydrating toner in your routine, double up the hydration by using a hydrating essence after applying toner.

Layering a hydrating toner with an essence infuses skin with plenty of hydration and speeds up the healing of pimples. Try patting the skin with Isntree’s Hyaluronic Acid Toner, followed by Dr. Ceuracle’s Vegan Kombucha Tea Essence, to keep skin hydrated and to soothe irritation and inflammation.

Use a spot treatment

To help the pimple heal quickly, apply a spot treatment like Benton’s Goodbye Redness Centella Spot Cream on the affected area a few times a day or leave it on overnight. Popping pimples is never the answer unless you’re a professional, so leave it to spot treatments to kill bacteria and reduce redness and inflammation.

If the pimple is about to pop, rely on acne patches to absorb pus and prevent infection in the areas around the blemish.
