After some jury pool controversy, two weeks of hearings, numerous witnesses, and 12 hours of deliberation, we know now that Derek Chauvin, 45, has been found guilty of all three charges against him for the murder of George Floyd, second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.
The jurors deliberated for more than 10 hours over two days before coming to their decision. Afterward, his bail was revoked, and he was placed in handcuffs and removed from the court through a side door. He faces up to 75 years in prison.
2. Nigeria: Emmanuella makes international film debut in Australian action drama ‘Survive Or Die’
Emmanuella has made her first international feature film debut in the Daniel Okoduwa and Mike Kang multiple award-winning action drama “Survive Or Die.” Shot in Australia in 2018, the top comedienne appeared in the film as a guest star alongside its major cast, including Hawa Barnes, Felino Dolloso, and Craig Bourke.
‘Survive Or Die’ follows the story of Shade, a 16-year-old refugee whose escape from her war-torn African country lands her in a remote and uninhabited part of Australia.
3. South Africa: Babes Wadumo is tying the knot this weekend
Gqom superstar Bongekile “Babes Wodumo” Simelane and her fiancé Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo will celebrate their traditional wedding this weekend in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The news was confirmed by Babes’ sister and PR manager, Nondumiso Simelane, on Wednesday. “They are getting married on Sunday near Umhlanga,” she said.
A white wedding will follow the ceremony in a few months. “They will have a white wedding, but it is not this weekend. It may be in about two or three months from now,” Nondumiso added.
4. Ghana: Gyakie’s ‘Forever’ at number 3 on Billboard Top Thriller Chart
Singer Gyakie’s hit song, “Forever,” which propelled her to international fame, has officially spent seven weeks on the Billboard Top Thriller Global chart. The song is at number three on the chart in the week of April 17. The Afro-Fusion artiste is the first Ghanaian to have a song that has stayed this long on the Billboard chart and charted this high.
Cardi B’s“Up” is currently at number one, with Lecrae and Andy Mineo’s “Coming in Hot” right behind it. Before being at number 3, Gyakie’s song was at number 11. The song shot up the chart, something people have attributed to her remix, which features Omah Lay.
5. Ed Woodward: Manchester United executive vice-chairman to stand down at the end of 2021
Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will step down from his role at the end of 2021. The announcement came before Manchester United, along with the other five Premier League sides involved in the proposed European Super League (ESL), withdrew from the competition.
The planned breakaway league has received widespread condemnation. Woodward, 49, joined United in 2005 and has been in his current role since 2012. He was set to leave at the end of the year, but the decision to announce his departure has been brought forward.
