Award-winning Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage is set to release her EP titled “Water and Garri,” She met American musician Pharrell Williams to get his opinion on the project. The self-acclaimed African bad gyal took to her Instagram page to uploaded a video clip of herself and the American music mogul as he shared his thoughts on her forthcoming EP.

Pharrell Williams spoke well of Tiwa Savage’s project and how much commitment, professionalism, and good musical expertise was infused into the production. Tiwa and Pharrell both have partnership and distribution music deals with Motown Records.

2. Leslie Jones to host the MTV Movie & TV Awards next month

Leslie Jones is bringing her enthusiasm for film and TV to MTV as the host of the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards. The comedian is set to emcee the awards show, set to return live from Los Angeles next month after last year’s edition of the show was replaced by a best-of special due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In addition to hosting, Jones is a nominee this year for best comedic performance for her role in “Coming 2 America,” the long-gestating Eddie Murphy sequel streaming on Amazon Prime.

3. South Africa: Thuso Mbedu scores new film alongside Viola Davis

SA actress Thuso Mbedu has scored a new role opposite Hollywood superstar Viola Davis in the upcoming film “The Woman King.” The news comes just weeks before Thuso makes her much-anticipated debut on Amazon Prime Video’s “Underground Railroad.”

It was reported on Wednesday that Viola and Julius Tennon of JuVee Productions issued a statement, saying they were “mesmerized by Thuso” and thought she was perfect for the project. Director Gina Prince-Bythewood also hailed Thuso as a “generational talent.”

4. Ghana rolls out 5-year anti-malaria strategy

The National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) has laid out a five-year national strategic plan to help scale up malaria control and prevention in the country. Strategies for the plan, which begins this year, comprise larvae source management, distribution of insecticide-treated nets (ITN), mass campaign, and case management in all districts in the country.

That is to help reduce malaria mortality by 90 percent, reduce malaria case incidence by 50 percent, and achieve malaria per-elimination in at least six districts by 2025.

5. Steph Curry grabs NBA record for most 3-pointers in a month

Stephen Curry broke the NBA record for the most three-pointers made in a month as Golden State Warriors beat the Sacramento Kings 117-113 on Sunday. Curry, who finished with 37 points, hit seven three-pointers to take his total to 85 with two games to play in April. The previous record of 82 was set by James Harden while playing for the Houston Rockets in November 2019.

Curry enjoyed his 30th 30-point game of the season and has hit at least that target in 13 of his past 14 games. A second successive win pushed Golden State’s record to 31-30 this season as they chase a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
