No one does it quite like Rick Owens, the American-born designer who has drawn legions of loyal fans to his devilish dark sensibility. Over the years, he has lent that gothic
touch to iconic labels like Birkenstock, Adidas, Champion, and countless others. Now, Owens has teamed up with Dr. Martens for a footwear collection with no shortage of the designer's signature swagger.
The newly launched partnership—this marks the second drop—is the first time these two iconic names, partners in dressing stylish weirdos for decades, have come together. First up is Owens' latest take on Dr. Martens 1460 Bex boot, complete with pentagram lacing (a motif of his mainline footwear) and dark-glam grey suede. Not to mention it sits atop the hard-hitting "Bex'' sole, which between the brand's classic air-cushioned outsole and the full-volume platform sole—making for a slightly eccentric stomper that you can still wear without fear of totally tipping over.
Next is the iconic shoemaker's 3-eye shoe, which gets amplified with a similar vibe: the sole is a bit chunkier than usual and finished with an unconventional double-welt switch.
And last, but certainly not least, is Owens' swaggering take on the gladiator-inspired Gryphon sandal, with the addition of an extra elongated leather strap for even more dramatic flair. (Even goths wear sandals during summer.)
Ultimately the three-piece collaboration looks to be one for the books. Rick Owens is fearless when it comes to footwear—just last year, he sent stylishly bonkers boots down his runway, with heels high enough to make Chelsea boots blush. This collection isn't quite as avant-garde as those (although pentagram lacing is plenty out there), but it still packs his signature brutalist punch. Enjoy.
