Jenna Dewan's Mom Manual, Quarantine Edition

When the world stopped back in March, Jenna Dewan had just welcomed her second child, a baby boy, with fiancé Steve Kazee. The actress and World of Dance host found herself

in the same boat as new moms around the world, navigating quarantine with a newborn. During this time, Dewan found comfort in wellness, becoming the new face of Renew Life's probiotics, a line of supplements for immunity and digestive and gut health.

During a break from meetings and homeschooling, Dewan caught up with ELLE.com to share her best advice for new moms, plus her "less is more" beauty philosophy, sexy date night tips, and daughter Everly Tatum's favorite music of the moment.

Prioritize self-care

I realized early on how much I've relied on facials, massages, and other people—things to create your own well-being and self-care routines. When that's ripped away, you come down to, okay, well, what can I give to myself? I used the Gua Sha stone in the shower with my face wash, which helps with my face's tone and glow. It's something I can do from home pretty easily.

Give your skin a break

My skin has gotten a nice six-month break because I hardly wear any makeup, but I use a CC cream sunscreen that I put on in the morning. It's been nice to simplify and get back to basics and be a lot more relaxed in that natural beauty state.

Dance it out

We have a Spotify playlist on repeat throughout the house. I think we're all in the house so much that sometimes, it's just nice to have music on. Everly has particular requests and then Steve, obviously being a musician, he's got incredible taste in music. He makes most of the playlists around here and we have everything from chill folk music to more upbeat, TikTok jams, highly requested from Evie.

Make time for date night

[Steve and I] are on the last season of Ozark and that's been our addiction for a little. We had a newborn, so there wasn't a ton of TV watching happening in the beginning, but it is nice to know you have cozy nights at home and you try to make the most of it. Steve surprised me with a little movie night, one night. He made little tickets for a date night in, movie tickets, and it was nice just to switch the routine up a little bit.

Channel your energy

In the beginning of quarantine, I wanted to become a better cook. I liked all the virtual cooking classes that were happening. I'd find someone on Instagram that was going to do a virtual soup-making class. Now we're into virtual workouts. I've been obviously keeping up my pilates. Also, virtual breathwork classes, it's like a meditation.

Take it day by day

This is one of those "this too shall pass" moments. How can we let go and flow? Sometimes it's as simple as taking it day by day, hour by hour, and breaking it down into really manageable, realistic steps to get through this time. Because it is hard. It's hard to have home-schooling when a lot of us weren't home-schooling our children before. It's been about, how can you reorganize your schedule so that it reflects the new normal and try to make the best of it? It's just constant reorganizing and communication and trying to get everything as best under the circumstances.

Don't turn a blind eye

The fact that we are fighting for equality is something that I feel it's even more necessary, especially during this time and this year. So, we have to do our part as human beings. It's our duty to fight for equality. We can't turn away. We can't pretend it’s not happening. We have to look at it and do our part.
