The Gucci Beloved Column

A hat, because it might rain. A glittery pouch, a creased letter. What we carry in our bag is a secret microcosm that reveals a lot

about us: endeavours, adventures and feelings. Found again in a family closet, that sleek leather handbag embodies visceral bonds and childhood recollections. Bags are much more than a simple accessory. They live multiple lives, inside and all around us. They mark the style of an era, and aspire to a universal dimension.

This is the case of the four “GucciBelovedbags, in which Alessandro Michele has condensed the maison’s heritage and iconic codes: the double G buckle, the piston closure, the horsebit. They bear important names, just like the things we love, and have richly historied origins: the Jackie1961, the epitome of ultimate chic; the equestrian-inspired GucciHorsebit1955; the GGMarmont with its logo variations; and the Dionysus with its double tiger head closure that pays tribute to Greek classicism.

This flow of references is rooted in the life and imaginary world of each of us: the Jackie with a plane ticket for an impromptu, happy weekend; the GG Marmont holding all the promises of a festive night; the Dionysus and the Horsebit shared with our best friends…This is how the idea for the GucciBelovedColumn came about. Conceived by VogueItalia, the column invites readers to dive deep into their beloved bags, and pull out stories, anecdotes, thoughts or free associations, sharing them in this space. They may be impossible desires, memories, fantasies, flashes of glamour or just simple requests for style tips. The column will act as an openpage, embracing anything the VogueItalia and Gucci communities want to tell – regardless of gender, because a bag is the ultimate across-the-board fashion accessory.
