Noting that Jay-Z has been successful is an understatement. Twenty albums (including collabs like “Watch the Throne”), founder of streaming service Tidal and entertainment company Roc Nation, has stakes in Uber,
recently sold his Armand De Brignac champagne brand to LVMH, and still co-owns D’Ussé alongside beverage giant Bacardi—and that's still missing a few bullets on the resumé.
And while this year Forbes estimated his net worth to have surpassed the $1 billion mark (add Beyoncé's bank account, and you've got the wealthiest couple in music), Jay-Z hasn't let his success go to his head. Even though rap's most successful man ever could easily afford to a pair of $10,000-or-so Dior x Air Jordans for every day of the week (to match his insanewatchcollection), he's walking around in Pumas that sell for $110.
As seen in a picture taken with LeBron James and Bad Bunny during the recent filming of HBO's The Shop: Uninterrupted, Mr. Carter threw on a pair of the German brand's Wild Rider Layers in a turquoise and orange colorway. The original 1980s Rider has long been Puma's best running shoe. Designed for the transition from track to road running, the sneakers are lightweight and flexible thanks to minimal padding. Jay-Z's Wild Rider Layers are an update to that OG design that were released earlier this year.
To be fair, we shouldn't be too surprised that Jay is lacing up some slightly everyday Pumas. He's been quietly working in the background as the brand's creative director of basketball, a role that sees him consult on the creation of new sneakers. If the Wild Rider Layers sneaker gets Hov's seal of approval, then they should get yours too.
