Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are quietly trying to do business in Hollywood. Varietyreports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been "quietly shopping an idea for a project" to
different media companies. No details on what exactly this project is—an unscripted or scripted TV series or a documentary, for example—have come out yet.
But Meghan and Harry secretly took meetings in June, Variety writes, and a source with knowledge of the project told the outlet that the Duke and Duchess would like to serve as joint producers on it. One such meeting was with top execs from NBCUniversal.
A source close to Meghan told Variety that Meghan "has absolutely no plans to act," so she wouldn't be performing in the project that she and Harry are pitching.
Meghan and Harry moved to Los Angeles in March after stepping back from their senior royal family roles at the beginning of this year. The couple recently moved to Montecito, about an hour and a half away from the city.
On Friday, Meghan interviewed non-profit The 19th*’s co-founder and CEO, Emily Ramshaw during a virtual summit hosted by the organization. She addressed her feelings about her U.S. move, the Black Lives Matter movement, and expressed excitement about being able to use her voice in a way she couldn't as a working royal (royal family members are not supposed to speak out about politics).
"To come back and to just see the state of affairs, I think at the onset of it, if I’m being honest, it was just devastating," Meghan started. "It was so sad to see where our country was in that moment. And if there’s any silver lining in that, I would say that in the weeks that were happening after the murder of George Floyd, in the peaceful protests that you were seeing, in the voices that were coming out, in the way that people were actually owning their role and acknowledging their role they were playing by either actively or passively participating in the discrimination of other people, specifically of the Black community, it shifted from sadness to a feeling of absolute inspiration, because I can see that the tide is turning."
"From my standpoint, it’s not new to see this undercurrent of racism and certainly unconscious bias, but I think to see the changes that are being made right now is really—it's something that I look forward to being a part of,” Meghan said. "And being part of using my voice in a way that I haven’t been able to of late. So, yeah, it’s good to be home.”
