New York Fashion Week is back! Here are the coolest looks from the runway

New York Fashion Week (now renamed the American Collections Calendar by Tom Ford) is officially back! After two seasons of digital shows due to the pandemic, designers including Proenza Schouler, Prabal

Gurung and Carolina Herrera are telling us what to wear for Spring/Summer 2022, with the help of actual shows with actual models.

Prabal Gurung kicked things off at Robert F. Wagner Jr. Park with none other than Kathy Hochul, the governor of New York, in the front row. For his first physical show in over a year, the designer threw the rule book out of the window. He presented a joyful collection of colourful clothes, mixing hints of formalwear with athleisurewear, and more importantly it was a collection that anyone could enjoy, regardless of gender. In fact, his boldest dresses were presented on male models. And so what?

Over at Carolina Herrera, Wes Gordon’s Spring 2022 Collection celebrated four decades of bold fashion at the House of Herrera, with a spirited mixture of reds, pinks and marigolds, florals and signature polka dots with riffs of black and white.

The theme of celebration could be seen throughout other designers’ collections. In Jeremy Scott’s signature saccharine use of pastel colours and My Little Pony motifs and Laquan Smith’s neon hues and revealing cut out details.

The message is clear, fashion is back, and it’s cause for celebration. With Rodarte, Khaite, Oscar de la Renta, STAUD and more still to show in the next few days, expect more seriously cool looks to come your way. Then, onto London Fashion Week. How exciting.
