Drake Hits the Links With a Pretty Sweet Golf Collection

Drake knows—maybe more than most—that in order to be a successful musician these days, you’ve got to put out more than music. While his newest album, Certified Lover Boy, sits atop

the Billboard charts for another week, the Boy is also announcing his latest extracurricular project: a new golf collection of course-ready sportswear, through his collaboration with Nike.

A refresher: Nocta, named for Drake’s proclaimed “nocturnal creative process,” is his Nike sub label that launched back in December. Though he released plenty of Nike-branded Certified Lover Boymerch over the course of the album’s lead-up, Nocta appears to focus more on relatively minimalist outerwear and tech-fabric gear; aside from a flourish or two, it’s been Champagne Papi in name only. The Nocta Golf collection is no different, featuring sleek anoraks, logo crewnecks, and Dri-Fit polos in black, white, gray, and hunter green. And it's legit golf gear: pro golfer Brooks Koepkapremiered a mock-neck from the line at the PGA Tour earlier this month. (The same day, PGA even tweeted out a Certified Lover Boy lyric name-dropping Tiger Woods, with a GIF and everything.) Even so, it’s still the sort of sportswear that’s supposed to double as streetwear, making it fit for golfers and non-athletic regular people alike.

Drake announced the collection on his Instagram alongside a photo of his uncle and golf mentor Stephen Sher sporting the new collection, describing him as “[a] man who took me under his wing and showed me much of what life had to offer and even more so what your own life can become when you are dedicated and loyal.”

He continued, “My grandmother Evelyn Sher has a resting place close to the King Valley Golf Club and our drives and visits to that course hold some of my most valuable life lessons and will forever be cherished,” referencing his local club on the outskirts of Toronto. Drake’s family history aside, the collection also feels like a next step in, as Kristin Corry chronicled for Vice in 2019, rap’s history of reclaiming the hyper-white space that is the golf course. As Nocta captioned a post announcing the line: “Everyone’s welcome.”

With prices ranging from $34 to $500, the Nocta Golf collection—or what hasn’t sold out of it, anyway—is available online now.
