Mindy Kaling dropped a bombshell on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert last night: She secretly welcomed her second child, a son named Spencer, in September. She is also mother to
two-year-old Katherine "Kit" Kaling.
“I’m telling this for the first time, it feels so strange," she told Colbert. "I gave birth to a baby boy on September 3. This is news to a lot of people [that I was pregnant and have a second child now]. It’s true! His name is Spencer. I forgot the most important part of it."

Kaling updated her Instagram throughout her pregnancy with new full-length outfit of the day photos—but deliberately chose to hide her pregnancy in the shots she posted. E! spoke to a source about how Kaling pulled it off. There was no Photoshop involved, and initially, she wasn't going to keep the pregnancy a secret. She had planned to announce she was expecting in May...before the pandemic completely changed everyone's year.

"She had originally planned to reveal the pregnancy at the Met Gala, but that obviously didn't happen," the outlet's source said. "Because she was in the early months of pregnancy when she went to the Oscars, nobody knew or could tell."
"Mindy actually hasn't been editing herself or her belly in any of her photos," the source added. "She carried out instead of wide, and she was careful to shoot from specific angles, so you couldn't tell she was pregnant from the pictures of her on social. If you looked at her straight on, you couldn't tell she was pregnant."
