Zendaya Wore a Shimmery Versace Dress from the Year She Was Born as 'Tribute to '90s Supermodels'

Zendaya must have been reading one of those posts that tells you which fashion trend was most popular the year you were born, because she just plucked a gem out of

1996 and wore it for all to see. At the 2020 Green Carpet Fashion Award (GCFA) on Saturday, the Emmy winner accepted the Visionary Award digitally, and to mark the occasion, she wore a slinky, shimmery brown Gianni Versace dress from 1996.

"The whole look is inspired by '90s supermodels," stylist Law Roach told British Vogue. "She was actually born in 1996, so I thought that it'd be fun [for her] to wear something from that year. It's taking her back—if Zendaya had been of age then, maybe she would have been a Versace model."

Here she is:

The dress was first worn by Anna Klevhag (Anna K) on the autumn/winter 1996 runway. Kate Moss and Carla Bruni also wore a purple version of the dress during that period, and Naomi Campbell wore a yellow version in the same show in which Anna K walked.

Roach told British Vogue "there's always a story: who's worn it before, who made it, what did it mean to them, where did you find it? That part of fashion has always intrigued me, and brings more life to whatever you're wearing."

He added that they also went for big hair "very reminiscent of Cindy Crawford."

Zendaya has had a big fall so far. At the Emmys last month, the 24-year-old made history as the youngest woman to ever win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series when she picked up a statue for her work in HBO's Euphoria.

And she gave us this epic reaction:

No matter what she's wearing, it's clear this woman is doing big things.
