As someone who readily admits to prioritizing skincare above many (okay, fine, most) things in my life right now, it's no surprise that I’m constantly on the hunt for the latest
and greatest formulations. And, like other skincare enthusiasts, I’m currently obsessed with serums.
Facial serums, in all of their endlessly niche iterations, are their own special breed of product. There is a serum and a star ingredient for every skincare concern under the sun. But what if you just want one serum that covers all of your bases? It has to be lightweight enough to be layered underneath moisturizer, but potent enough to plump and firm to promote a more youthful-looking appearance. Well, I’m elated to report that I’ve found such a rarified gem in the ultra-luxurious, newly reimagined La Prairie Skin Caviar Liquid Lift.
If there’s one skincare brand that is synonymous with scientifically advanced, results-driven formulations, it’s La Prairie—and their latest product offering is no exception. Read on for everything you need to know about this recently revamped serum. Spoiler alert: there’s a lot more caviar.
It’s Potent
No one has been able to figure out how to defy gravity yet, so let’s lean into serums that help us keep our skin looking lifted and feeling firm. Skin Caviar Liquid Lift does just that (and more) thanks to its proprietary combination of two advanced caviar ingredients. It's the first time both have been blended together into one singular formula.
A quick recap of La Prairie’s dedication to harvesting what is quite possibly the purest, most nutrient-dense caviar on the planet: La Prairie scientists source the eggs from sturgeon who swim in pools of fresh, mountain-filtered water in the Swiss Alps. Two highly-concentrated extracts—caviar oils and caviar proteins—are what actually make it into the bottle, but not on their own. These extracts are combined with other skin-boosting biomolecules that mimic caviar in its natural state, including lipids, peptides, amino acids, and minerals. This translates into a mixture of La Prairie’s two proprietary blends—Caviar Premier and Caviar Absolute—in one silky, lightweight serum.
It’s Interactive
The formula becomes fully activated before your very eyes (something I personally find to be very satisfying). With the push of a sleek silver button, the two separate chambers—one housing the brand’s iconic golden-colored caviar beads, the other a milky-textured serum—mix together. And thanks to the very thoughtful packaging, you can watch the beads emulsify into the serum via the see-through window (which, IMO, more products should really make use of because it also lets you know when you’re running low).
It Smells Heavenly
Superficial, but important nonetheless, is how a product smells. Personally, I don’t like anything too perfume-y or overpowering, but I also want to smell something. This formula ticks both boxes. It’s slightly floral at first pump but then quickly sinks into the skin, leaving behind a barely-there, clean scent.
It's Iconic
Take a second to marvel at the golden caviar beads. I don't use the word iconic lightly, but it certainly applies here. These beads are so closely related to La Prairie’s brand DNA that they have actually inspired La Prairie’s latest commission with artist Cyril Lancelin for this year’s FIAC. Because the mega-exhibition was cancelled due to COVID-19, the artist’s sculptural work will be displayed as a public piece at Le Village Royal in Paris in late October. Tell me the last time you heard about a sculpture dedicated to a skincare product. I’ll wait.
