Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello are finally back in the same city after Cabello returned to L.A. from London, where she was shooting Cinderella. But the couple opted not to have
a date night, at least in person, at the Billboard Music Awards in Los Angeles this evening.
Cabello and Mendes are jointly nominated for Top Hot 100 Song ("Señorita") and Top Collaboration (fan-voted award), but the couple had no pressing reason to be there as they are not presenting or performing.
Given the coronavirus pandemic remains very much ongoing, the Billboard Music Awards, like many other award ceremonies being conducted now, had a much smaller audience than previous years—in this case, no audience. Only winners of the categories announced during the broadcast attended to accept their awards. Cabello and Mendes lost Top Hot 100 Song, and Top Collaboration wasn't announced during the show.
Cabello also, for what it's worth, hasn't been back in the U.S. for a full two weeks yet, which is what is typically recommended as a quarantine period after any air travel.
Cabello did give Mendes a shoutout recently on her Instagram—simultaneously reassuring fans that yes, they are together despite them not being seen together since the end of May.
She wrote to him, "the world could use some magic, beauty, and Wonder always, but especially right now. @shawnmendes what a gorgeous gift to the world. He’s crafted this album with every last bit of his soul, his spirit, and his essence with the purest of intentions. My love, I’m so proud of the person you are and I’m so excited for people to see and hear your heart. ❤️"
