R iding on last year’s highs, 2022 kick starts a promising new year of fashion. As if to acknowledge this, Black celebs across the globe sashayed into the new year in glamorous
looks that ranged from retro tried-and-true silhouettes to edgy contemporary trends•
The Looks
Artistic touches help to elevate otherwise simple looks. The airy silk dress that actress Meagan Good wore to welcome her followers into the new year was effortless, but the floral pattern took the look to the next level. Inspired by the blooming of flowers which signifies new beginnings amidst her divorce from husband, Devon Franklin, the head-to-toe print was bursting with color and energy. Simple, but far too interesting to be left in the closet, Good’s outfit was as compelling as a flower garden.
Many of the pieces Tiwa Savage has worn recently have been appropriately over the top. However, in celebration of New Year, the singer decided to pare things down for her vacation in Ghana. The Kai Collective dress she wore was as trendy as it gets, and its figure-accentuating silhouette played up the star’s physique. The braided cutout detailing offered a bold flash of skin, while adhering to the singer’s aesthetic. She complemented the dress with a pair of beige heels and a white mini bag.
Dressing for and around the new year means being able to predict and set the trends for that year. As stylish celebrities headed into the year 2022, they did precisely that by selecting pieces that aligned with the spirit of the new year.
