While the omicron variant sidelined many a New Year’s Eve plan among the general population, Amazon magnate Jeff Bezos rang in 2022 with a “crazy disco party” alongside family and friends
But where did Bezos even find a New Year's outfit like this? Turns out his ensemble-cum-costume was about as high-end as you might expect. He wore a fitted printed silk shirt by Paris-based brand Casablanca, which is currently on sale for $1,128 on Farfetch, and for $915 on SSENSE. (The next day, Casablanca even shared a Bezos meme to its Instagram story.) And if you really zoomed in on the right front pocket of his low-slung white jeans, you might glimpse the tiny logo of Brunello Cucinelli, the Italian luxury label favored by billionaires both real and fictional. (The pants retail for $695.) No ID yet on his iridescent heart-shaped sunglasses, but we’d venture a guess that you could find a similar pair (for cheap!) on…Amazon.
Amazon’s been digging a foothold in the fashion world for a while now, and Bezos has been bulking up his personal style to match his newly outsized public persona. Mostly that means taking things pretty literally: wearing a cowboy hat for the frontier that is outer space, say, and ultra-fitted chi-chi prints for a party in the tropics. Then again, Bezos’s NYE look garnered buzz as much how they fit as where they came from—both shirt and trousers were indisputably snug. Sure, the CEO could go a few sizes up next year—which would make his silk shirt look a little like Ye’s Phoebe Philo-era Celine blouse. But it’s not clear that good taste was even what Bezos was going for. In general, while Silicon Valley’s been streamlining its work-hard wardrobe, its play-hard counterpart still needs some work. As long as the tech world M.O. is still flex over fashion, a little print will go a long way.
