Emma Roberts and Garrett Hedlund have separated, People reports, after several difficult months in their relationship. Representatives for the couple have not confirmed the story, but a source says the break
happened a few weeks ago.
“It's sad, and they are trying their best to co-parent. It's been hard,” an insider said.
The allegedly former couple celebrated their son Rhodes Roberts' first birthday last month with a rodeo-themed party. Rhodes was born in December of 2020, and the couple first began dating in March of 2019. The baby being born in the midst of the pandemic was a challenge to both new parents, but that was apparently something they managed together.
Another source toldPeople at the time, “Having a newborn in the pandemic has been a lot harder than either of them expected, but they're really, really trying their best to figure things out. Garrett totally stepped it up after Emma was still recovering after giving birth. He made sure that their house was stocked with things that Emma liked and needed so she felt comfortable. She's just starting to get back into a more ‘normal’ routine.”
Since the break up, Hedlund has joined Instagram, sharing his first post to promote his new single. In the caption of a photo of himself playing his guitar, he wrote, “Been cookin’ somethin’ up in the studio for the past couple of months, and now I finally get to share it with the world: my first single as a solo artist, ‘The Road.’”
Roberts said to People in July that becoming a mom has been “eye-opening.”
She explained, “Where before, I'm operating in the world on my own and I'm just kind of thinking about what's right for me. And when you have a kid, it's like, wait, how old is he going to be in the year 2050? What's the world going to look like? For me, I definitely wanted to educate myself more on what I should be doing.”
