Drake Brought a Very Rare Yohji Jacket to His Kanye Hang

On Monday night, Ye (the artist formerly known as Kanye West) and Drake were spotted out at The Nice Guy in Los Angeles, where they gathered alongside a whole host of

friends and collaborators including Travis Scott, Future, Offset, Kendall Jenner, Hailey Baldwin, Baby Keem, Luka Sabbat, and Yung Lean for a purported Donda 2 listening party. And if these two former frenemies (?) slash current collaborators (??) are going somewhere to be seen, they are going to dress accordingly.

For Drake’s part, he wore a very luxe, very rare vintage leather jacket from Yohji Yamamoto’s fall 1991 collection, with a painted rose motif on the sleeve befitting the Certified Lover Boy. Drake is kind of a Yohji head (see also: the circa-2004 Yohji moto jacket, from the brand’s collaboration with Italian biker equipment company Dainese, he wore alongside Future in the “Life Is Good” video) but even this one is quite the find.

Meanwhile, Ye stuck to his usual script—hefty leather jacket, washed black jeans, big ol’ boots—with a few switch-ups. He covered up in a perforated full-face mask, one of several variations on a theme since he started wearing face coverings last summer. (Earlier in the evening, when Ye hit the other place you go if you want to be spotted out in Los Angeles—Nobu Malibu—he deviated from his preferred silhouette in an embellished muscle tee.) For the night out, he opted for his trusty Balenciaga Croc boots, one of several behemoth styles in his rotation lately. He was also accompanied by his new L.A. girlfriend Chaney Jones, as he and paramour Julia Fox are reportedly in an open relationship.

But earlier this week, Ye debuted yetanother pair of tactical footwear: the seemingly impermeable Black Diamond X2 fire boots constructed of just about every sturdy material you could think of—leather! rubber! Kevlar! Teflon!—which makes sense given that they’re meant to be worn by firefighters. Ye pulled up in these new other, other boots to appear in

Doesn’t it feel like just yesterday we were pondering their respective style during their dueling Donda and Certified Lover Boy album rollouts? For the record, “just yesterday” was last summer, but time is a flat circle. Time to strap on those fireproof boots once more, because here comes Donda 2.
