Getting rid of excess lower belly fat, also known as muffin top or love handles, can be really tough, especially if you’re not the kind of girl who can dedicatedly show up
at the gym. The worst part about trying to get rid of a muffin top is usually the frustration that arises from seeing no results after weeks, and sometimes months, of using the wrong workout routines. Well, not anymore!
In this article, we cover three easy workouts that are sure to melt that muffin top away. The great thing about these exercises is that you don’t need any fancy tools to do them. That means they can be performed in the comfort of your home whenever you like. Your inability to stop by at the gym is no longer an excuse, and by dedicating a few minutes each day, that excess lower-belly fat will be saying goodbye.
What causes excess belly fat/muffin top?
Muffin tops can be caused by various factors such as stress, poor diet and eating habits, and sometimes hormones.
While many focus on an exercise strategy to expedite your muffin top loss, you also want to make sure that you’re getting good sleep and eating properly. Your diet should consist of whole fruit, non-starchy vegetables, high-quality protein sources, and healthy fats. Eliminating starchy and processed foods that lack good nutritional value will surely go a long way in helping you get rid of your love handles fast. And this includes cutting out sugary drinks.
It’s important to note that muffin tops aren’t just a case of looking better, as several studies have shown that people with excess belly fat are at a higher risk for developing high blood pressure and other serious health conditions. So losing the excess belly fat is ironically actually a win-win situation.
Remember, you cannot decide to lose that muffin top without getting rid of excess fat in other places too. So, in addition to your part-specific exercises you need to incorporate total body workouts that burn off every inch of fat so you can get the slimmer waistline you desire.
Here are 3 easy exercises to help you get rid of that muffin top…
#1. The one hundred
Start your muffin-top-destroying exercise routine with The Hundred because it warms up the body by improving your breathing and heart rate while stretching and relaxing your spine and chest. It also strengthens the muscles and accelerates the flow of blood in your body.
To do this, lie down facing upwards. Lift both legs toward the ceiling and lower them halfway so that they’re at an angle. Curl your head up, reaching your arms long alongside your body with your palms down. Pump your arms up and down as you inhale for 5 counts and exhale for 5 counts. Repeat this breathing pattern 10 times while holding the position.
#2. Russian twist
This is a great abs exercise for your core, oblique, and ultimately to get rid of that muffin top. To do this, start by sitting on the floor with your knees bent and feet flat on the ground. Then, lean back so your upper body is at a 45-degree angle to the floor. Link your hands together in front of your chest, brace your core and raise your legs off the ground. Rotate your arms all the way over to one side, then do the same in the other direction. That counts as one rep! Repeat 20 times or continue for one minute. Be sure not to hunch your shoulders while doing this in order not to hurt your back.
#3. Double crisis-cross
The double criss-cross targets the abdominals and the oblique muscles. Begin by lying face up with your knees bent into your chest and your hands behind your head for support. Bend your left knee into your chest while pulsing your shoulder and keeping your knee close together. Ensure you keep your elbows open wide and do not pull on your head with your hands to prevent strain. Also, make sure that the shoulder blades remain lifted off of the mat.
Repeat by alternating your feet and arms with each rep.
Remember, that belly fat didn’t pile up overnight, so don’t expect it to melt off overnight. Keep working on your muffin top loss consistently and watch the results show by the day.
