No. Not quite that. I don't have that level of confidence just yet. Maybe that's a few years away. But we have some really cool stuff coming up actually, which isn't
too far away. I just signed off on a lot of the things. But again, this is personal stuff—there's all the McLaren and Formula 1 stuff, but this is something which is more mine and I have my full input in. There's no need for the extra little logos and mandatory things. This is just purely and 100% me, what I like, what I like to wear, what I can represent. So it's really cool. From my side, I’m learning what people want. A lot of it's what is my interest, what I want, but I also want to make people happy and to give them something that they'll love as well.
Is it going to be like merch, or will it be more stylized than that?
That's the tricky line to try and cross. The Formula 1 stuff is very much the merchandise side of it. The Quadrant stuff is more what I would love to walk down the street and see people wearing casually, rather than just because they're a Formula 1 fan. I want it to be more things that people would wear every day and night. It's where I can represent the casual side of me, the normal side of me, not the Formula 1 racing driver side. So I think that's what makes it a lot better.
The 2021 season was one of the most dramatic and scrutinized in a long time in Formula 1. How did you manage to keep your head down and stay focused? Was it as intense as it seemed from the outside?
I mean, it was definitely as intense as it looked from the outside. But I think something I'm quite good at doing is, if I have a weekend off, switching my head, having time to relax, maybe to do other things. I think that's one of the more important things, is knowing when to actually take some time to relax and do stuff away from Formula 1. Because if you're doing literally the whole year just focusing on racing, it can really take a toll on you, and you can be extremely tired. It can be a very tiring sport by even the halfway point, let alone the end of the season. So yeah, it was tough, but it was a lot of fun, and it was my most successful season and the best in many years for us at McLaren. And I think it's just a year where I got to establish myself a little bit more, put my name out there and score some better results. Hopefully that's just a building block to go into next season.
What are some goals you've got for the season ahead?
I mean, I literally have no idea. I wouldn't say I'm at that stage. I would normally set a few of my goals after the pre-season testing. There're obviously some more basic ones which I had from last year, which is to look at my weaknesses, find them, try and see ways of improving them for this coming season. But in terms of results and positions, there's nothing that I can say because we don't know how good our car is going to be. We don't know what everyone else’s cars are going to be like. Of course, we have high expectations and we want to be confident and motivated and so on, but there are so many rule changes this year, so no-one really knows where they're going to stack up. So time will tell.
