Ending another eventful week in February, Black gents served us a rich array of fashionable looks to rave about. Last week, some of the world’s most stylish celebs and top influencers were
quite experimental with regular styles—making them more interesting and less boring by simply adding some pizzazz to the basics.
The Looks
On the athletic circuit, warm hues and dramatic prints took center stage. For the NBA All Stars weekend which took place in the cold city of Cleveland, basketball player Chris Paul looked earthy in a Gucci GG Kaleidoscope coat which he layered over a caramel colored Tods Blouson jacket and a pair of Tods pants of the same tone. Worn with a pair of unreleased Nike Blazer ’77 high top sneakers and a lime color beanie, the look was yet more proof of his unstoppable fashion prowess (as if we needed it!).
Out of the studio, onto the stage, African Giant Burna Boy continued his cool slate of on-duty looks for a concert in Senegal in a simple yet attention-grabbing two-piece coordinating set. A 2021 trend which has been carried into 2022, the Grammy winner rocked a two-toned pink camp collar shirt and its accompanying complementary shorts. Paired with pink-colored sneakers and a bubblegum pink cross body bag, Burna’s monochromatic ensemble was a clever way to bring back the 70s/90s style attitude with a modern day touch.
From appearances at New York Fashion Week and the NBA All Star Weekend in the US to bringing the heat musically and fashionably, Black men were experimental and took regular styles up a notch last week. We can definitely say the era of saying men are not fashionable or experimental with their style is over.
